Triggered much?
yes im often triggered by boldfaced lies why not just say i pirate because its easy or because i can or even just to have a huge collection . . . but a it stands he is likely using his parents ip address to illegally obtain games if that went south his parents would take the hit so not only is it incorrect to say that its for them but he is instead potentially putting them into legal problems

Poor you, bit wait, why are you crying if it wasn't your console?
Are you somehow responsible for it?
I just realized that he mentioned that; maybe he caused it?

No offense; but aren't you 31? And you're not using proper grammar. Hell you're even American, also you're triggered by Pirates. Well, Yar-har; welcome to GBATemp!

Start practicing your soldering skills!
Be positive, a new skill can always come in handy later!

I learned how to solder from my father; hence he's an engineer.

... first of I am crying bc of how selfish i was in using my parents as an excuse second I feel it's partially my fault that he bricked his 3d as I should have done it myself instead of him doing it on his own

My friend attempted the downgrade process on his own and got stuck on the 2.1.0 firmware section and he closed his new 3ds before telling after I warned him not (what can you do) he has a nand backup (thank god he listened to that) and now i was wondering is there any other way besides hardmod to restore or I can try to do something else
I do hardmods for 20 bucks, and a complete hack for 50

Well turning off the console in 2.1 is completely fine, the guide tells you to (especially if your Wi-Fi isn't on) so that's not the issue. The ONLY way to brick on 2.1 with a N3DS is closing the lid while it's on or updating via system settings. I feel really bad for all these kids that are bricking their 3DS, but I have a gut feeling half of them aren't their "friends". It makes it really hard to help when the majority of the time they are way less than honest about how it happened or "swear" they didn't do anything. Then when you give a real suggestion based on vague details, the rebuttal is a snarky comment about "not wanting to do that". I feel like what you guys need is some tough love.

Oh I should also mention that if your "friend" did in fact close the lid on 2.1 and put the system into sleep, you've got a nice MCU brick and it can't be fixed with a hardmod. Period. It's literally a brick.

... I have literally no reason to ask my family for another 3ds when I already have one (don't even deserve it anyways)

This the disadvantage of a n3ds.
'Oh i'll leave my n3ds in sleep'
*closes n3ds*
(a few seconds later)
'OH SHIT, NOW I REMEMBER, DOING THAT HARDBRICKS!!!!!'

But wait, i did this on my 2ds, how come when i put it in sleep it didn't brick?
2DS is same as o3DS which was able to run 2.1 originally, the only way to brick 2DS is factory reset before 6.x (I think?). Also, I'm pretty sure closing the lid on N3DS causes an MCU brick which nobody has recovered from before, I highly doubt it's a NAND issue.
