Hacking Region change Japanese 2ds

I want to region change my japanese 2ds, it's already setup with a9lh, but i've heard that by doing so it'll be unable to play memory extended games like smash and pokemon sun and moon, is that always the case?

if so is there a way to fix it ?

Thanks, i came to notice that while formatting does fix the problem with the memory extended games, it can trigger a problem with the screens

Has anyone have had this problem?

+1. Reboot holding (Up) during boot to launch arm9loaderhax GodMode9
+2. Navigate to `SDCARD` -> `files9`
+3. Press (Y) on `00000000` to copy it
+4. Press (B) to get back to the main menu
+5. Navigate to `SYSNAND CTRNAND` -> `data` -> (32 Character ID) -> `sysdata` -> `00010017`
+5. Press (Y) to paste a copy of `00000000`
+6. Select "Copy path(s)"
+6. Press (A) to unlock SysNAND writing, then input the key combo given
+7. Select "Overwrite file(s)"
+8. Press (Start) to reboot

I personally don't do the ctr transfer method ive had issues in the past. I just install a9lh, install usa cia files, boot godmode and edit the secureinfo file and boot fbi and delete the jpn cia files then system format

so I am planning to get a n3ds xl from Japan (the red Monster X version)..can you shed some details on region change please..can i get a used one from Japan or does it have to be brand new?

It can be anyone, ragion changing its pretty easy, and with freeshop you dont need eshop anymore.

As eshop gets unusable on n3ds due to region changing.

but I can still play online, and menus and all will be in english ?

Once you region change, yes, you can still play online, and also menus will be on English or whatever region or language you specify.
If you follow 3ds.guide make sure you backup every file mentioned.

One last question (sorry I am noob wrt resgion changing), will carts from new region work?

Luma applies patches to the system itself to accept any region games.

Pretty sure you just gave the definition of region free

Saying luma its region free, can sound like it can be installed on all region devices, but can also mean, that MAKES the system region free.
