Good Job!

It's OK for me.
Double dragon 3 and rad Racer don't work properly.

I decided to try the Famicom mini. I was initially reluctant because of the checksum error, but decided to give it a try and it worked!. But again, I would use the this at your own risk for the Famicom mini. I added in a translated version of Final Fantasy III and it works! Great tool, it worked for both my Nes classic and Famicom. Amazing! Thanks, Cluster!

Whoa this is great! I'd rather use my Famicom because that's where all my nostalgia is. Good to know it can have English language games!

BTW, is this still limited to 88 games or whatever the limit was?

Ok, so I have it working. For anyone that's been having the same issues I have, I did the below and it worked.

On whatever version of the software you're using at the moment. Unplug the NES, select flash original kernel, follow the steps and hopefully you will have no pipe errors. Then delete your current installation. This should get you back to a clean NES. Then...
  • Turn off Windows Defender (might not be needed but previously I'd transferred from a mac via USB stick)
  • Download the latest version of the software
  • Run the software again while the NES is unplugged
  • Select the dump kernel option and follow the steps
  • Unplug the NES
  • Select flash custom kernel option
  • Unplug the NES
  • Add ROM's to the program
  • Select upload selected games and follow steps
Hopefully like me you'll now have the LED turn off correctly once completed and your NES won't restart, hope that is of use to some people.

Thanks!
what do you mean Then delete your current installation? followed your stops to a tee was ubsure by this so i deleted the app stashed the dump somewhere and re downloaded the app did all the steps same thing also did you click ok right away with the message saying it's going to turn off

Apologies for being unclear, I just meant delete the hakchi2 folder you had been using. I imagine that's probably not needed, I just wanted to start with a completely fresh system.

After the ok I wait for a few seconds and the light doesn't turn back on, neither does windows re-detect the NES. You should have windows see it disconnect and that's it.

Does anyone with an EU version actually have it working? I've tried multiple region ROM's now including US, Europe and Unl all of which don't show up. Out of ideas at this point... Again, anything like logs etc I can upload please let me know. Other than that I think it's time to sit this one out until someone figures it out!
EU is working fine here.

uncheck the game and add games like usual through hakchi.exe?

Right click on game - delete game.

Hello folks,

I just registered to say thank you for doing this - it's amazing! I've just flashed my EU Mini and all is well!

As far as roms go though...

City Connection, Mach Rider and Elite were all unplayable because of significant graphic corruption.
Battle Toads and Rad Racer were playable, but had issues (A really strange flickering with BT,and slight graphic corruption in RR)

I don't know if it's just the roms i've used or the EU Nintendo mini, though Mach Rider not working might explain the relatively small default rom selection.

I think this is because you already dumped it? This is why I reflashed the original kernel to begin with, did you do that part? After that I stopped getting that warning. Either way it should be ok I think, however mine only started working once I'd flashed the original kernel first.

hi thanks for your tip. the power light goes off after done with flashing but another problem came up. the eu nes mini spit out a C8 error after I boot it up. is there some way to disconnect the nes mini after the light goes off? kinda frustrating to keep running into errors.

also no error this time

as much as i hate to leave a project undone we're not getting anywhere without the autor, ill keep this page up but im going to try to sleep if i can

Has this been tested to work under WINE? Would like to know so that anyone reading who has Linux/OS X know if they can use it too! :)

To my knowledge, 50hz is no longer a thing in PAL regions due to Digital video signals becoming mainstream. Technically the PAL/US NES classic edition should be the exact same, unless they replaced some games more common in the PAL region back in the 1980s

It is no longer a thing. But it used to be and if the games run at 60hz there is a slight difference in speed, might make an impact on the speed of the tunes too. So for an authentic PAL experience I think they should have made it 50hz. I don't know if they did or not though.

This is a great thing to happen to the NES mini, almost made me want to get one... I'm not going to though since it still doesn't beat emulation on the PC.

Worked like a charm on my 2nd attempt with an EU unit. Thank you so much for helping add the great classics missing from the Mini.

Steps taken:
- Connect to USB
- Power on mini while holding reset (let go when you hear the device connected chime in Windows)
- Wait for Windows driver install to complete
- Run "driver\nesmini_driver.exe"
- Start hakchi2
- Go to "Kernel->Dump kernel"
- Go to "Kernel->Flash custom kernel"
- Add games (and box art etc.)
- Click "Upload selected games to NES mini"
- Profit
