I am new to Wii hacking, so please forgive my ignorance. I just successfully installed the Homebrew Channel on my Wii. What I want to do is run a backup I made of New Super Mario Bros Wii, which is a 47.GB ISO file, from an external device, either a SD card, Flash Drive, or Hard Drive. The problem is, as far as I know, Wii only supports FAT32 which only recognizes files up to 4.0GB. I am probably wrong. Someone please tell me how to launch this 4.7GB game from any kind of external device. Thanks in advance!

Use WBFS Manager.
Do not use WBFS Manager. It corrupts games and WBFS partitions are obsolete.

Transfer the game with Wii Backup Manager, it will take care of converting the ISO to .WBFS file format and splitting it if necessary.

it does? Didn't know that..
But I've been using it for years no.. Seems to have no problem with me. But yeah, Wii Backup Manager also works, still.

The problem with WBFS Manager is that it uses an outdated WBFS version that is known to mark the wrong blocks as free when deleting games, so when you delete games and add new ones afterwards it might end up overwriting part of the games on the drive. Wii Backup Manager doesn't have this problem (even with WBFS partitions)

Use WBFS Manager.

Okay, so I am on a Mac, and I downloaded WBFS for Mac OS. I have a USB drive and an SD card. I am just trying to play New Super Marios Brothers from the backup ISO. So it doesn't matter to me if I do it from the SD card or USB drive. From searching on the internet, it seems in order to run games from USB I need to first install a USB loader. I tried that, but one step was to run dop mii, but when I ran that, my Wiimote stopped working and it froze my Wii. I had to pull the power plug and plug it back in to get the Wii working again. So is it possible to run New Super Marios Brothers from an SD Card? I dragged and dropped the New Super Marios Brothers ISO onto the WBFS for Mac OS program, and now it says "Pending: New Super Marios Brothers Wii ISO" but it is stuck at 0%. Also it says "to get started plug your WBFS-formatted drive into an available USB port" But at this point I am just trying to convert the ISO so I can put it on my SD card, not my USB drive. Any suggestions? Thanks again for your help!

Once I use Wii Backup Manager to convert the ISO, is it possible to run the game from an SD Card instead of USB? Or is it only possible on USB?

I don't know what to use on Mac, sorry.
Yes, you can run Wii games from SD cards, except with USB Loader GX which for some reason only supports GC games from SD.

You can use WINE or Windows under Boot Camp. If you don't want to use either of those then use Wiimm's ISO Tools. It's command line so you'll have to read a bit to learn how to use it unless there's a GUI for it for mac OS.

USB Loader GX doesn't load games from SD because they don't work well from SD. The card slot on Wiis is molasses/tar/glue.

WBFS was the original partition scheme for USB Loaders because there was no code for FAT32, etc. It's very rudimentary and is prone to trashing the whole drive especially using WBFS Manager. At least with FAT32, NTFS or ext2 you have access to OS tools that can attempt to repair the file system.

So which loader would you recommend to load a Wii game from an SD card? I only have USB Loader GX because that's the only one I know about.

I actually downloaded witgui for my mac and it worked, and i was able to partition a USB flash drive (which has 128GB capacity) and I converted the ISO to a wbfs file on the USB flash drive. Then I loaded the flash drive using USB Loader GX on my Homebrew. And it shows New Super Mario Bros Wii and I can open the main menu screen and it shows Mario and Luigi etc just like when you open it with the CD like normal. But they when I click "Start" it starts to load then crashes and goes back to my Homebrew Screen. What am I doing wrong? Is it because it is too slow to try to run games off a USB flash drive, or is it because I don't have all the hacks in place that I need?
