What exactly are you wanting ported to PC? The frontend GUI? There are several PC frontends for various emulators, such as RetroArch or EmulationStation.

The 2 you mentioned are not nearly as easy to setup as Snes9xGX.
They also require you to setup an emulator behind the GUI, which are lacking a lot of functions as opposed to Snes9GX and FCEU Ultra GX.

I'll admit ease-of-setup, but the reason RA is complicated is because it supports way *more* features than GX. If you want a simpler frontend GUI, you'd be better just writing one from scratch, rather than trying to port the GX frontends, since they are built around the Wii GX toolkit.

To be honest, RetroArch PC is a bit of a cluster fuck. They spend more time adding ancillary features then actually ironing out the interface. It has its strong points (Hard Vsync) but its design philosophy needs better priorities.

RetroArch Wii on the other hand is garbage. A completely unusable mess. Every new release it gets progressively more broken and it’s 240p support (the only reason emulating on Wii makes sense) hardly works/is implemented in a totally illogical manner.

Was that necessary, though? You realize how much time and effort the put into each port of the emulator, right? It's not like you're not forced to use it, if you don't like it, use the GX emulators. Yes, criticism is okay to a degree, esp. if it helps the developers, but calling something "garbage" because it doesn't suit your needs is completely unfounded. You would do well to remember that. If you have grief about emulators getting "worse" then maybe you should post the bugs on GitHub instead of here?

I could criticize the GX emulators just the same:rolleyes:

RetroArch PC works fine for me, not sure what your PC related issue is.

I have it down to single pops every few seconds or so, much better than the constant crackle. And it isn't crashing for me anymore. The latest code is up on github. I've only tested in Dolphin, not on real hardware.

I hate to be a bother... but could somebody upload the latest dol for me? I wanted to do some more testing.

u have done it before even in the retroarch wii u thread. So do yourself a favor and remember u have been a douche in the past criticizing devs, at least Burnt collaborates programming and knows his stuff, unlike you. u would do very well to remember and eat your own words

Ah so MSU1 is working? Hopefully RetroArch Wii U implements it soon :P
do not rush people with your passive aggressive posts

Loading save states seems to break msu functionality. It'll load with no music and when its time to load a new song it reverts to the snes spc. At least thats what super metroid did.

I've tried every msu pack that I could get my hands on and they all boot up and run just fine. With two exceptions...

Flashback msu, just starts with a black screen and does nothing. That could be down to the way it was patched as I couldn't find an ips or an alternate version for this one.

Yoshi's Strange Quest, a homebrew that uses msu for yoshi's speech instead of music is unplayable in this emulator because every time it loads a pcm sample for Yoshi's grunting, jumping or whatever the game stutters quite heavily making platforming impossible. The non msu version of this game runs perfectly fine.

I'll admit, I didn't test save states. My bad on that. For the non-working game, please try it on the PC, either with my MSU-1 build of Snes9x, or with bsnes/higan.

It doesn't have a manifest.bml, maybe that's why it wont load? I could only get it to work in bsnes+

Hi @qwertymodo, i went ahead and implemented the following commits into your source:
https://github.com/libretro/snes9x/commit/9f356470aa0b39f7f01b5d41488a742fa83529eb (don't know the equivalent of libretro.cpp in snes9xgx, so i omitted that one)
https://github.com/libretro/snes9x/commit/844930e6e7c29964afe9db53b7d41934a92771a0

It seems to have alleviated 100% of the occasional pops for MSU-1 music (that i could notice). Are those correct?

I tried essentially the same thing and couldn't get it to work, so I probably missed one somewhere. I ended up going with 32000 instead and that got me to the almost no pops version I have now, so getting it worked out on 32040 would probably fix the last of it. Can you zip up your current working source and send it to me? [email removed]

Sure, man! Source sent.

I really appreciate this emulator, but one thing I don't like is the hq2x and the other filters. It slows the emulator down when using them.
They should be removed in the next experimental build, I think.

Some people do use them for other games, so it should not be removed. Including lighter filters like SuperEagle or 2xSai would be an option.
