Hi fellow GBATempers,
So I'm upgrading my daughters 2ds to a o3ds, she loves freeshop (the ability to download her own games) but as this present is a surprise I want to try and keep all her games while moving from one to the other.
Both consoles are running A9LH, no emunand and on latest update (11.2).
Can I just create the new Nintendo 3DS folder for the console on the new one and dump the tickets off the 2ds? Then transfer the contents and install the tickets on the 3ds?

I don't think it would work that way because all the files in the Nintendo 3DS folder are encrypted to match a specific console. But, I think (correct me if I'm wrong guys), that if you were to:
1. Back up all the tickets on the 2DS
2. Perform a system transfer from the 2DS to the O3DS and choose to transfer files via computer
3. and Re-install all those tickets on the O3DS
the games should be on the O3DS :)

EDIT: also make sure to back up the save files through JK Save manager and import them onto the O3DS if needed

Just make a backup of the 2DS SysNAND, restore it on the O3DS SysNAND and move all the files on the 2ds SD to the O3DS SD.

Also, just curiosity, but why not a N3DS? If it was the firmware, you could've bought a N3DS Super Mario 3D Land Edition. All versions of it come with 10.7 and the ones that the serials start with YW7010/YW7011 are confirmed to have Dual IPS.

Have you tried this and can confirm that it works? I've heard that flashing a system with a NAND other than its own causes bricks..

Well, I used this method to transfer my EmuNAND from one microSD to another.

Also, he could just log out from his NNID in the 2ds, ask Nintendo to unlink it and then link it to the O3DS. Solved the possible brick.

Well that's a whole different story. With an emunand there's no risk because that's all it is, an emulated NAND, completely seperate from the console.
I'd advise NOT transfering the sysNAND from the 2DS to the O3DS. Can someone please back me up on this?

yeah that's a terrible idea ctrnand transfer would work though it wouldn't move the nnid if there is one

If you inject a nand backup of a system into another one, it will brick (no matter if it is an emunand or a sysnand)
You can only inject a nand if the target is from the same sysnand or an emunand created on the same system

I would go for the system transfer + dump tickets

If both Consoles have A9LH + CFW you can reDownload all of your Games on your Old3ds trough freeShop. Then Backup all your Saves with JK's SaveManager on your 2ds (When you hold R and press Y you can Backup all your Saves at once) Then copy The JKSV Folder from your 2ds to your 3ds and import all your Saves.

just the ones that start with 00 and not the 01 tickets?

I would do it this was (and probably will I was just hoping to save some time when importing)

Just backup all the tickets.

FreeShop redownload method works great if you only have a few titles installed or a very fast internet connection.
