Hi all,
I got a 32 pin and 40 pin GBA. I also got a GBA SP 101 with the white connector with uniform widths. I saw that I best could use the 32 pin GBA to do this mod. But will my screen of the AGS 101 work good on the GBA? I saw on https://gist.github.com/grantland/8c112548b44aa87dced2 that the A type will work the best with a 32pin GBA. But there are AB, A and B screens, right? So the problem is that I'm trying to find out what AGS 101 screen I have and what the best will work with the GBA 32 pin or 40. Can someone make me this clear?

Have a watch of this video, it should explain it to you.

In a nutshell though, you have a white tabbed screen so are best to use it with your 32 pin board.

I've been using my AGS 101 in an SP for a while now and always noticed it had a *tiny* bit of ghosting. Today I opened it up and found out I had an AB type screen (brown tab). I've heard conflicting opinions on the internet as to which screen type has the least amount of ghosting. I plan to case an AGS 101 screen into an original GBA and was wondering if anyone out there had found any concrete information as to which screen type is supposed to be the best. Anyone got any solid facts? XD This is doing my head in.

I'm not sure if there are any visual differences. I didn't have to solder anything. I taped the end of the included red wire so it would not contact anything on the motherboard. I was happily surprised.

Apologies for the double post.

Anyone has any experiences with these specific ribbons? https://www.aliexpress.com/store/pr...t-Adapter-Screen-Mod/1945613_32716977370.html

Which one should I buy for my 40pin GBA, if I want to connect a white tabbed screen? A or B?

Hi!, just registered. I've been following this thread for a long time..

I bought that one and this one. Both 40 pin B
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/For...ght-backlight-For-A-B-Screen/32648426781.html

I've been experiencing a little image retention with both ribbons. But it's only noticeable on high contrast games, like pokemon gsc at night. It seems that the white menus and dark backgrounds at night don't get along.

Then i bought a 32 pin gba, the ribbon posted above and used the same white tab screen. The image retention it's still present, but it's less noticeable.

With other gba/gbc games the display looks Amazing tho, no image retention, ghosting, interlacing or washed out colors whatsoever.

Posted this in malheur's post about issues with 40 pin + white tab screens but thought it'd be good to put it here too in this main thread.

First post here and just got my GBA working the way I wanted. I had this same combination of 40 pin motherboard and white tab screen and massive issues with ghosting/image retention like what malheur has shown in their photos. I got it fixed though after studying the pinout that KipMudz posted and the info from your posts malheur.

What I did was:
1. cut both C1 and C2 on my ribbon cable
2. connected P2-VEE to REVC
3. connected P2-VCC (beside P2-VEE) to GND (specifically pin 32 for the cartridge (my solder skills are not good enough for P1-GND)).
4. make sure to cover cut C1 and C2 with electrical tape to prevent any accidental shorts

I've attached how it looked when completed.

So, yeah, thanks KipMudz, malheur and wiggy from HHL. It's been real fun modding and might do it again soon. Especially as I may have slightly, ever so slightly scratched the AGS-101 LCD when I was scraping the foam off...thankfully it's barely noticeable.

40 pin B from "Gamers Zone" is the same ribbon sold by leechan for 40 pin/white tab with a resistor to remove any problem, no soldering needed.

I have a small update on my mod! Strangely my replacement 32 pin adapter also had the same issue, so I borrowed a 40 pin gba from a friend and bought a 40 pin adapter, and it turns out that the screens work perfectly fine! With that, I assumed that the issue with my 32 pin mod is either the board or the ribbon cable, but as the original unlit screen works perfectly fine, I assumed it had to be the adapter. I bought a couple of 32 pin adapters via aliexpress ("Gamers Zone") and they work perfectly!

Tl;Dr - the reason why the screen originally didn't work was because both ribbon adapters were faulty, just as Testo90 said.

Have noticed that my system flickers on GB/GBC mode, but not with Gameboy advance games, is there a fix for this or is it just due to the nature of the AGS 101 screen?

Thanks

are you using an actual gb/gbc cart or goomba? and have you tried new batteries (im sure you probably already did)?
also, does this happen to just one game or is it multiple games?

Using actual cart, have tried replacing batteries, have tried it with a gameboy game and gameboy colour game, it's more noticeable with the gameboy game.
