Because it's rednand, a copy of your sysnand, on the sd card. That way, you can apply some patches on it, and mess with it, without bricking your wiiU.

If you want to backup your sysnand with the current tools:
Create a rednand (follow the guide above) -> it will dump your sysnand to the sd card.
Then use the dimok tool to copy the rednand to the PC.

Yep, that's a pretty bad solution, but i don't have any other ideas for now... X_X

Whats out now works perfectly fine. There's a lot of talk and not much action from them "We are implementing a lot of new exciting features and will have extensive brick protection" wank, wank, wank, 99% percent of users just want to play games and emulators of a bloody usb device.

Or next century. I think it's safe to call team salt vapourware now. But that's fine, the tools available now are good enough for nearly everyone. And still improving!
