Hello GBATemp people, I am looking for a suitable USB to HDD adapter cable for my Wii U. A Hard Drive taken off an old Windows XP laptop, it holds 60 GB max. I need to store more games with Brazilian Method.
I had a look at this thing on Amazon, but will my Wii U have enough power to run this HDD smoothly? Or do I need a USB Y Cable? Can you suggest some good products (with link) from Amazon/eBay? Thanks.
Here's a picture of my Hard Drive:

I would never recommend an adapter like that. It's not a good idea to use adapters that just leave your HDD bare open like that.

And yes, you must use a Y cable. Your chances of finding an adapter that uses external power is very slim.

Ah, okay. I almost confirmed to buy it. Plus I could never afford to buy a proper external HDD with a shell such as Toshiba or WD ;-; Oh well, I'll go for that Y cable anyway.

Dont bother with that drive. Complete waste if time. Either get a decent thumb drive for cheap money (check compatibility first) or just buy a usb hard drive. An old IDE drive will likely fail soon anyways, be slow as shit, and such a waste of time and money when you can get something so much better for the same amount of money.

Hell, you could even take advantage of the US black friday online sales, or cyber monday sales and get some killer deals.

I would recommend you NOT use that drive at all. An IDE drive like that will fair much worse than even a cheap USB Flash Drive, especially through the use of any adapters - not to mention it'll probably fail on you in the near future.

I think you should instead spend your money on something like this:

SanDisk Cruzer CZ36 64GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive
http://a.co/icT0UuG

It has slightly more storage space and is currently 54% off ($15.49). The extra couple of dollars will save you a great deal of headache.

Note: You can get an even cheaper 64GB Flash Drive (Amazon's Best Seller is currently $9.99), but then you may run into slow transfer speeds/load times for your games.

Yeah don't waste your time. IDE laptop HDD's were prone to failure even when they were out.... 10 years ago... Honestly, don't spend another dime on that thing. Spend 38 bucks on amazon.com and get a 750GB HDD and throw it in an $8 enclosure with a Y cable.

Thanks. That saves my ass with these answers. I won't be needing a useless HDD at all -- another reason is bit too much room for SATA HDD sitting on Wii (sittning on Wii U too) for use with USB Loader GX and Nintendon't, and I would buy a USB stick.
