It's been a long, long time since I've even tried to run a new game on my 3DS using the gateway card. I can't even remember the last EmuNAND I had if I'm completely honest, but I'm gonna try and give as much info about this as I can.

I just set up Pokemon Sun ready to play, all headers changed, converted to .3DZ and trimmed and needed to sort the 3DS out since it hadn't been used for a while.

So I'm still using (apparently) a really old method of loading into Gateway mode. I still use the Browser method. Turn off Wi-Fi, go to website, turn on Wi-Fi, click refresh and hold L to enter the Gateway menu.

It worked first time, and the only thing I really wanted to do was update my EmuNAND to 11.2, so I go to settings and in the bottom right it says 'GW3D Blah Blah' so I know I'm okay to update EmuNAND from here.

I click system update and the console says yep, that's fine all done. But it seemed to download and install so quickly that I have no idea if it worked correctly. I know I already had a new firmware downloaded and ready to install as everytime I boot up the 3DS it tells me.

So, I restart the 3DS, use the browser method but now when I hold L it doesn't load the Gateway menu anymore... It loads right into Gateway mode. Pressing select shows the list of roms, but the System Settings claims that the firmware is 'GW3D 9.8.0-25E', not 11.2... and trying to update the EmuNAND firmware, the 3DS just won't connect to the internet at all in Gateway mode but perfectly when first turned on.

I'm so confused.

I was a bit hasty, trying to install the new EmuNAND as I had the previous one over a year back now, so I'm just wondering how I can update the EmuNAND properly from here...?

All help would be appreciated! :)

Make sure to also update the gateway launcher.dat from their website first. We never know.
Also based on what you said, I would assume that your sysnand is still on 9.2, correct? Also, you could try to load the gateway menu without the red card inserted instead. It will always load the menu that way.

Indeed, the SysNAND is on 9.2.0-20E, but I didn't know it always loaded without the red card inserted.

I'm currently following this guide to installing a few new things I think will be useful https://plailect.github.io/Guide/get-started-(old-3ds-eur)

Make sure you're using the Launcher.dat on the root of your SD card from the "GW_Ultra_4.2_BETA" folder on the Firmware GW 3.7.2-BETA “Ultra”.zip release. The (Firmware GW 3.4.1 “Ultra”) Launcher doesn't work. Also I'm pretty sure the newest versions of Gateway uses (L + Select) at the GW loading screen to enter the menu. It probably says GW3D 9.8.0-25E instead of 11.2 because you downloaded the 9.8.0 update a long time ago and just now installed it. Make sure you have your router's info entered into the EmuNand's options, maybe they got deleted somehow? I had a similar issue, but it was because I got a new router and only ever needed internet to launch GW through browser.

Also, since you've been away from the scene for a while like I was a couple day ago, I suggest looking into installing hacks directly to your SysNand so you don't have to worry about accidentally updating and losing the GW browser exploit. Check out this guide, there is a risk of bricking, but only if you don't read everything. It basically installs a hacked fully up-to-date firmware (called luma3ds) on your SysNand that allows for running homebrew script before the rest of the system is even booted. Once you're done with that you can follow this guide to allow your system to launch into gateway mode just by holding down on your d-pad at power up.

Hey @fauxe, Appreciate the reply! I used the 4.2 BETA launcher.dat yes :) Then installed the EmuNAND which I guess just installed the one that was pre-downloaded... probably 9.8 from a long long time ago hahaha

Anyways, in response to SysNAND Hacks, I've just been through the whole process and now have Arm9Loader installed and the Luma CFW installed also. Currently reinstalling my old NAND as per the instructions keeping a9lh in tact :)

My question is, how do I load games using Luma + my Gateway 3DS? Just read the end of your post about booting into Gateway mode by holding up the D-Pad. Will look at the link you sent!

Thanks again guys

Luma only works with .cias as far as I know. You can install them manually through FBI or you can install freeShop and use enctitlekeys to download through Nintendo's servers directly.

You still need Gateway if you want to use .3ds/.3dz I think.

Are you able to connect to the internet in GW emuNand now? Also are you able to run Pokemon through the .3dz? Lots of people can't even run it through GW with retail cards, myself included, which is why I went with the freeShop version. Interestingly enough, you can still use Gateway cheats with .cias.
