Exactly, lol. Especially since Nintendo prefers to pretend online multiplayer doesn't exist on the 3DS.
Most I'll miss out on is that I was hoping to trade an UB-02 Beauty for an UB-02 Expansion from Sun.
I'll just have to search hard around this college campus for someone else who plays pokemon.
It'll be tough, but I'll make it!

So is having access to another 3ds still the only way to get that file needed to transfer to the banned one? Just found out my friends 3ds has been updated to the latest firmware so thats a no go.

I gotta say most people who got banned and then sell off their 3DS to someone else without informing them is kind of being a scumbag.

The whole banning situation would be easier if they had tied it with the Nintendo ID rather than the console itself so the next user of the system doesnt have to suffer.

To be fair, those rebuyers in theory could complain to nintendo about them buying a system that's unknowingly been tampered with. Whether or not that'd accomplish anything though I dunno.

Update: Nintendo confirmed to Polygon that players have been banned for going online ahead of launch.

“As a result of a number of Nintendo 3DS users using unauthorized versions of several games, and connecting to the official game servers in violation of our terms of service, these users’ Nintendo 3DS systems that stored the unauthorized game code have been banned from Nintendo's online network effective immediately,” a representative told us in a statement.

Apparently we need to just wait, But the way they worded it made it seem like it might be a perma-ban. maybe not tho.

has anyone here actually try to read the terms of agreements for nintendo or pokemon s/m (i didn't but im just asking)

80$ on my local gamestore no biggie for me considering the fact I brought it for 10$

If the ban really is permanent as people seem to be saying, at this point I'm really not all that fussed.
The only thing that bugs me is that I'll miss out on Sun/Moon online battles, which, well, Battle Spot is a disaster anyway.
I might be peeved if by some off chance the Switch has 3DS backwards compatibility and you can System Transfer from the 3DS or something, but that's about it, honestly.
how do you know?

It definitely would be easier that way...because it'd take 15 seconds to bypass a ban like that.

Like I said earlier, this is the biggest reason I expect the bans to be temporary. Massive permabanwave has just so much potential for collateral damage.
