I think it will be another GameCube. With the GameCube Nintendo had a platform archetecture that they could evolve for three generations while still maintaining full backwards compatibility. The Switch may be the same thing. I can see Nintendo eventually launching a Wii U Mini to satisfy those with large Wii and Wii U libraries (and I don't think they will futz with the OS enough to block Homebrew and Nintendo my), and eventually the Switch could get GameCube games.
I don't see arm falling any time soon. Also ironic that Arm is owned by a Japanese investor (who moves from Korea, which Samsung is a huge user and more important manufacturer for arm).

Does anyone know about the CAD rumours for the switch's price? :switch:

Switch can probably emulate both GC and Wii but Wii u requires more power. I thought you meant like the GC in terms of sales...

According to Toy R Us, the price will be around 330 cad, and below 300 usd. Probably around 200 pounds. Switch might provide more power than gtx 1050 ti in dock, and that's a lot.
AMD's recent radeon pro 460 is really impressive. And if that process is applied on rx 460 it can hit much higher than gtx 1050 ti at 50w.

jesus that is a lot. Any word on its networking power?

There is another rumour about it being able to emulate wii u games, and gtx 750 ti managed that on cemu that with relative ease (cannot remember where it is).
Anything modern is at least equipped with a 100 Megabit, if not 1000 or for enterprise 10000. This is way past typical network service (my previous bundle hit 100Mb and provide a 10+MB download speed) and sufficient for streaming. There is no update on them combining into a cloud computer. The over gtx 1050 ti part is mostly speculation but even this is easily manageable with gp106, but dev having been stating that the switch is not lacking in power and xbox one's level should be able to manage wii u like it did with xbox 360.
GP106 provide both insane clock (nitrogen 2.8GHz) and some option to go more mobile with all the work in tegra.

I was talking about this:
Nintendo did patent something similar to Nvidia Grid which is basically a way to power a machine using processors elsewhere or even other pcs. Nintendo talked about this in their patent saying users could subscribe to a program to "donate" their console so it could act as a second GPU for another person's console and that person would be rewarded for it. So this machine can be very powerful.

Fun fact the inventors of this tech also worked for nvidia: https://www.linkedin.com/in/sharad-ranjan-6093705

Pretty much confirmed now: http://letsplayvideogames.com/2016/11/report-uk-retailer-game-to-price-nintendo-switch-from-199-99/ Console at 249 with additional storage and a game is awesome.

I was talking about this:
I was thinking about the combing multiple units through internet, which is not exactly the grid or this. Nvidia could be using their streaming tech which according to "three times as fast as xbox one" suggest stream being on par with a lesser gtx 1060.
Kimashima actually stated there will be a wide range of accessories during an interview, even joy cons and a new brand of wii like feedback device on par with vr controllers (to be fair valve wands look a lot like a bigger nunchuck)

I dont know abot streaming but this is a lot simpler as its just P2P

Actually combing multiple units in multiple location can be harder than using a stream server. For streaming you just return the input and download the footage. For combining units you need to distribute data to other units and hope them to come back with required computation and no one is using them. In servers this is managed with 10,000 (which takes a single pcie 3.0 lane) across limited number of units.
Also what do you mean by P2P?

The patent says that it runs by asking the user to basically subscribe the console to do this and whenever it is in stand by mode it can help run games, for the main console. SO whenever someone turns off their console this machine turns on when docked and helps passively like running background code or textures, not anything too crazy.

But splitting work across units might not really worth that much trouble. My personal experience tells me never split work if you can manage them on your own. But Nintendo is known to work wonders.

$300 and $249 is pretty good and reasonable. I would be surprised if it went under $249 without any big sacrifices. I seen a very few people from other sites that seem to keep seeing these prices and then say it "must be" even cheaper. Ridiculous.

Well if Nintendo plans to maybe launch a 3DS successor - and the New 3DS is already going for $99 starting Black Friday - they they probably aren't under as much pressure to maintain handheld pricing. $300USD and $330CAD (which I highly doubt, as a Canuckistan peso is worth about 74 US cents - making $400CAD more likely) is pretty reasonable (Except the more plausible CAD price. That I blame OPEC and PC's greed).

There is no such thing as 300 usd but rather 330 cad. Well, we don't have someone to force imported goods go up in price.

Ah, I assumed the base was $300USD and the CAD was calculated from that. I wasn't following the leaks that closely.
In which case, the Switch *should* be about $250USD

thats 250 for the base model with less storage and no game. LKD had said exchange rates shouldnt affect the console as it is region free.

Why the fuck would it have a touch screen if it was mainly designed to be played on the TV, without the tablet?

Didnt nintendo say that you would be able to play miitomo in their next console (switch), aka, touch screen.

Region free only means software availability. The exchange rate is absolute, and ignoring it invites unexpected losses and scalpers.

Right now, If the Switch is $330CAD and $300USD, I can buy one for $330 in Canada, sell it on eBay for $270USD, and make a $35CAD profit. I can repeat that 10 times to make $350, enough to buy my own Switch without it dinging my bank balance.
