hi , i just read that people unlink their sysnand and emunand ( am new to this ) because of the gift wrap bug and background themes being different but am pretty sure my nands are linked and fortunately i dont have any problems plus my themes are different well just emunand cause my sysnand is 4.5 so its just the normal white background

so i would like to know

what are the benefits from unlinking ?

if i unlink my nands will i have to reinstall all the .cia i have installed ?

is there a way to keep my friends list and activity log after unlinking ?

thx

Okay, first off everything you have probably read is ancient as fuck. Emunand NEEDS to be unlinked from sysnand or you will end up most likely updating sysnand (fun fact: you don't want to do that if you are not using a9lh). I highly recommend that you switch from an emunand setup to a9lh by following this guide: https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki/

To answer your questions before some anti-a9lh kid comes in here spreading the "fact" that a9lh isn't great...

1. No to everything if you use tinyformat on your sysnand.
2. Benefits include not making your console potentially worthless with each fw update, having a safe sysnand environment, etc.

and if i format my 3ds will it update my sysnand ?

The private folder is for dlc or something iirc, the 4 folders are probably from other consoles, or other formats where the sd card was not present. You can probably delete the smaller ones safely. Formatting does not update anything, but you should use tinyformat to unlink them (boot into sysnand with your cfw and install it).

believe me i tried to installing a9lh but its complicated plus going through the guide is very confusing ( like what page is next )

2-what do you mean by "making your console potentially worthless with each fw update" and "having a safe sysnand environment" , etc like what because i dont think i ll do it if its not really worth it especially if i cant keep my friends list and activity log

boot into sysnand with your cfw and install it.

i dont have any CFM , i only use emunand (which is not a CFM right ? again new to this :shy:)

The guide gives you the links you need. By potentially worthless, I mean that you may end up updating sysnand and killing your consoles chance at cfw. You can keep everything since you are doing nothing to your emunand.

cfw is what is used to boot into emunand, and patch things out of the system to allow for running unsigned code.
