Press Release
Detachable Controllers Reinvent Gaming

REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- In an introductory video released today, Nintendo provided the first glimpse of its new home gaming system and revealed that it is called Nintendo Switch. In addition to providing single and multiplayer thrills at home, the Nintendo Switch system also enables gamers to play the same title wherever, whenever and with whomever they choose. The mobility of a handheld is now added to the power of a home gaming system to enable unprecedented new video game play styles.

At home, Nintendo Switch rests in the Nintendo Switch Dock that connects the system to the TV and lets you play with family and friends in the comfort of your living room. By simply lifting Nintendo Switch from the dock, the system will instantly transition to portable mode, and the same great gaming experience that was being enjoyed at home now travels with you. The portability of Nintendo Switch is enhanced by its bright high-definition display. It brings the full home gaming system experience with you to the park, on an airplane, in a car, or to a friend’s apartment.

Gaming springs into action by removing detachable Joy-Con controllers from either side of Nintendo Switch. One player can use a Joy-Con controller in each hand; two players can each take one; or multiple Joy-Con can be employed by numerous people for a variety of gameplay options. They can easily click back into place or be slipped into a Joy-Con Grip accessory, mirroring a more traditional controller. Or, if preferred, the gamer can select an optional Nintendo Switch Pro Controller to use instead of the Joy-Con controllers. Furthermore, it is possible for numerous people to bring their Nintendo Switch systems together to enjoy local multiplayer face-to-face competition.

“Nintendo Switch allows gamers the freedom to play however they like,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, President and COO, Nintendo of America. “It gives game developers new abilities to bring their creative visions to life by opening up the concept of gaming without boundaries.”

Developers can design their games supporting a variety of play styles, which gives gamers the freedom to choose an experience that best suits them. Some of the publishers, developers and middleware partners announcing support for Nintendo Switch are as follows:

Im actually really excited about this. I think that was the direction they were trying to go in but it just never worked right. Hell even Sony (I like Sony) tried with the vita and cross play. But that never took off like it probably should have. I think this will make this portable and home console experience perfect, or at least get to near perfection. And undoubtedly both Sony and Microsoft will follow. I think this next gen will be really interesting.

For those who don't know a10 is faster than snapdragon 820 in single core, and a10x may very well kill tegra x2.

I guess digital games. It probably won't be BC sadly.
3ds possibly. Arm v8 may still run arm9/11 code (there is an android ds emulator that take advantage of this) and graphics are not that hard to emulate with their own dev team. Even raspberry pi is much faster than 3ds so why cannot a console class handheld do it?
While I do agree, it does somewhat make sense considering the fact that you can pull apart the controller and use the Joy-Con L and Joy-Con R as their own controllers.
Actually there might be a classic option, or at least by third party?

Despite that,,its official name is Nintendo Gamecube, hence the GCN letters referring to it. We call it gamecube simply for convenience... And because we are assuming you already know it comes from Ninty. As for the 64, well "64" is a number, (in this case, it meant 64 bits) not the name itself. It kinda has to go with Nintendo because it wouldn't make sense if you leave the nintendo out of it if you are out of context. Same for leaving the 64 out of Nintendo haha.

Yes, you just repeated my point.

A little strange how that article simply writes in the score for iPhone and yet shows a screenshot for Android phone performance. I don't trust it. Why didn't they have the devices compete on the same roster?

I remember when I played Twilight Princess on my iPad.

Oh wait I didn't. That was my S6.

Sorry about that... I guess I kind of derailed the topic for a little bit there...

There's no denying that the IPhone 6 and 7 are competent machines, they reach very high single-core scores as they're one of the first phones to use ARM's asymmetric big.LITTLE core design, that's not debatable. You can see how scores come close in multicore tests though, which is to be expected as they only have so much real estate on the die. Most Androids still use symmetric cores, which means that all cores are the same size, leading to lower single-core scores and similar multicore scores. This will of course change soon, but even I have to admit that the latest iPhones are pretty good, and I hate Apple. Between the 4S and the 6 Android has been leading the charge in technological innovation though, so let's not paint this in black and white - it's an arms race and the leader changes all the time, Apple hasn't been at the top consistently.

I also disagree with your point about touchscreens - dozens of iPhone-like phones were released before it, including Windows Mobile and Symbian ones. I personally had a Mio A701 at the time which blew the iPhone out of the water. I played Quake 2 on my phone back when iPhones didn't even support apps. The same applies to tablets. Popularising something and pioneering are two different things.

This is a silly debate, and frankly pretty off topic.

Also, I find it funny and a little unfair that we're considering Andriod to be some sort of conglomerated company. Andriod is an operating system, not a line of phones. There are many manufacturers out there who are authorized to use Andriod on their phones, and because of this we're comparing one type of phone model from one company, to many phone models from many companies that a lot of people seem to be unifying as the same team. These are competing companies people, their competing against each other as well as Apple.

Even if you don't like Apple, (which honestly, if you don't at this point then you might be a little less intelligent than you believe you are, and here's why: )you can't deny that they are regularly pushing the standard of smartphones forward. They are spearheading the competition and forcing the hand of their competitors. They pour tons of cash each year to make new technologies more affordable and to release new 'features' and or make currently existing features more main stream. If companies that develop Andriod based machines didn't attempt to compete with that, then you likely wouldn't have your Galaxy S7s as they are today.

So we basically got a Vita/Vita TV bundle, that's kinda a bit of a letdown. I know you need gimmicks to stay ahead of the curb but sometimes less is more Nintendo

Every time Nvidia has released a new SOC it has destroyed what Apple has out. Why? Because Nvidia uses their cores from their GPU's. No one can compete with those. Apple still uses Samsung I believe to make their ARM chips even though they are custom I believe. Even when the cpu cores are good, Nvidia usually has a pretty huge advantage because of its GPU. In fact I think the now almost 3 year old Nvidia Shield tablet is still one of the top 10 most powerful mobile devices because it was so ahead of its time and it is now about 3 generations behind what will be in the new SOC for the Switch.

Excuse me? Basing someone's intelligence on whether or not they like Apple is pretty far-fetched and kinda rude, no? If someone doesn't like Apple, that's their choice. If Apple wasn't so damned expensive/overpriced, maybe, but I stick with Android because of Apple and the mentality that only their devices are absolutely superior, etc etc. Just like any brand, like Sony v. Nintendo, if I like Nintendo more, does that make me less intelligent for not like Sony when they're pushing the standard in games?

Labeling people who don't like Apple as having lowered intelligence automatically invalidates your side of the story, sorry, man.

That's a ridiculous assessment, every company has access to the exact same pool of technology, they're merely cobbling parts together in different ways and occasionally customise them.

You're right in saying that Android is not a conglomerate, but the debate is very much equivalent to the PC versus Mac circlejerk when both use the same hardware.

I find Apple's products inferior in every way due to how closed off they are - they still don't feature removable storage, they don't have removable batteries, the OS is just closed off UNIX in disguise and the handsets sacrifice convenience for the sake of image. The most recent evidence of that is the lack of a headphone jack when it has been the standard in audio for decades and isn't going anywhere just because Apple says so.

I treat iPhones as Spaghetti Factory - one phone fits all. Android gives me customisability iPhones do not. Apple's devices are not suitable for me, I have genuine reasons to dislike their handsets and even more reasons to dislike the company as a whole.

Apple is and always has been better and making someone elses idea better rather than creating new ones. They perfect other peoples ideas, rather than innovate. They just know how to button it up. This last Iphone was the smallest upgrade they have ever offered unless you wanted waterproofing, which is a big deal, but about two generations behind how fast they offered it compared to the competition.

Apple also while doing well in mobile has not innovated anywhere else in some time. Their computers are running multiple generations old Intel chips and haven't been updated forever. As a computer hardware guy they are far from cutting edge. And even if the rumors about them making some changes with the next lineup are true I still wont be sold because they haven't shown a consistent ability to upgrade anything but their phones. Even the tablets are getting ignored and don't even get started on the Ipods.
