I couldn't downgrade my own 3DS without taking it to pieces and taking a soldering iron to it, so I decided to buy a N3DS which had already had CFW on it.

The only problem is that I'm frightened about connecting it to the internet to go on the free shop, in case it might update the firmware and brick itself or something? (it's on 11.0.0-33E). It seems to have homebrew launcher, FBI, freeshop and some little blue star thing on the main menu. Does anyone have any advice on where to go from here?

Thanks, but how would I find out if it has this A9LH? (sorry for my noobishness)
Taking out its microSD, checkif it's has arm9loaderhax.bin or not.
If there is arm9loaderhax on the root, copy it to some place as a back up.
Place arm9loaderhax .bin from https://github.com/d0k3/Hourglass9/releases/latest.
Boot your 3DS, if it's taking you to Hourglass9 without holding any button, this console have A9LH.

OK, thanks guys. This is the root directory:

I guess it does have these things. I should do what you said, nechigawara? Thanks
His MicroSD is a mess. From what I saw, this console should have A9LH.
Since I'm not sure what CFW and Hax he's install:
  • SaltFW doesn't have config menu
  • Luma3DS can boot from menuhax (Not sure if it's need button holding)
  • A9LH now have SDless Official Build, ShadowNAND
Trying to boot without holding any button while set payload as Hourglass9 should be the best way to check.

But, since there is an Luma3DS folder in MicroSD, this console shoulf run Luma
You could just
  • move boot.3dsx to back up folder
  • Hold Select Button then turn on your 3DS
If it show Luma3DS config screen, this console has A9LH.

OK thanks nechigawara, I cut the boot.3dsx to a backup folder then hit select and the on button. There is now a black screens with Luma3DS v5.5 config written in blue at the top:

Do I put the boot.3dsx file back in the main directory now?

Also, does anyone know if I'll be able to play native GBA games on this, ambassador mode or whatever?

Yes, you can put it back where it was. I ask you to move it to making sure that menuhax can't be load.

GBA need to be injected, using Emulator, or DSTWO to be able to play. It can't run GBA games directly.

PS. My suggestion is:
  • Updating your content. Most of its content should out-dated right now. Updating Luma3DS & FBI should be enough for common user.
  • Check if this console have EmuNAND or not. If there is EmuNAND, you can decide to keep it or merge it with SysNAND.
