With the new OTPless a9lh installation on N3DSXL, there is no mention of NAND backup anywhere for it. Should I be backing up my NAND manually or is it just redundant?

I'd deffo backup, it's still recommended in the guide even OTPless right after the 9.2.0 downgrade if you check.

Anyway good luck with the process :)

Cheers

The answer should always be YES.
Make backups periodically, if you have a9lh even more reason to do so.

In case of a screw up, you won't lose much progress.

Unless you're low on disk space, if you ever ask yourself this question, do it. Besides using up disk space, there's no disadvantage, and having backups can save you if anything goes wrong.

Be sure to back up your backups. I lost a save file once because the only hard drive it was on failed. (Fortunately, starting the new game was interesting than the first playthrough, but the point still stands.)
