Homebrew System Update Idea

Before you comment, please keep in mind that:
1. I know the PS3 and 3DS are drastically different systems.

2. This is JUST an idea. Please no rude or off topic comments.

3. I'm in a horrible mood right now, also sleepy, so this might not make make sense.

4. I don't know how Homebrew or Updates work like some of you do. Please be easy on me.


So, for the PS3, they have this thing where you can just put an update file onto a USB stick and update from the system off of it, and BOOM. CFW. (from my understanding)

What if there was a homebrew app that simulated the 3DS update menu. And you could put a desired update file into the folder along with the app so that it knows what to install. It would be backwards compatible, to make downgrading possible no matter what.

If it is possible, maybe even have a button combination to force reset the 3DS to the menu, if something were to go wrong.

Sorry. I just thought it would be a neat idea. But it sound so easy that I'm sure someone has already thought of it.

I see your point, but I'm talking about something that can work even if you're above 9.2. ^^
I never realized the parallels I drew with Sysupdater though. Sorry about that.

3DS updates are delivered from the internet, so you'd have to fake Nintendo's servers (using custom DNS usually) (not easy)
Also, they're encrypted and signed, so you'd need Nintendo's private keys (very not easy)

Even if such a fearure existed, it likely wouldn't allow you to go back to an older firmware.

The AM service checks a title's version before installing it, so installing an old firm (like 9.2 for example) is impossible without first uninstalling the current native firm (i.e. the infamous downgrade exploit) which, without an ARM11 kernel exploit, is currently impossible above 10.7 (and if it was possible it would fail to install as AM now checks against a hard-coded list before installing titles)

It's a good concept but it would never work.
