I think that's normal behaviour on stock firmware (11.1). I was testing the 11.1.0.34 U payload for OoTHax on a stock machine and it opened up the Homebrew Launcher fine, but then froze completely on a yellow screen when trying to select the exploit installer.

It works normally when full A9LH and Luma has been installed.

I see it does. My point is, it wasn't doing that before 11.1. Aka, Nintendo tries to block writing saves of exploit games.

Yeah, just be sure you are on EmuNand to not update the SysNand and if you want HBL on EmuNand, just download the cia and install It. BootNTR (Mainly for cheats and streaming) doesn't work so if you don't care, you can update :)

I'd recommend you to install a9lh anyway.
Got it, thank you! ^^

It hasn't worked since 11.0, that's why :( Would be useful since I'm stuck on humblehax with 11.0 and the exploit itself needs an update apparently.

It most certainly was doing that in 11.0. This is exactly the same issue (ASLR) that made it so that oot3dhax had to be updated for 11.0, and also half of the reason ninjhax had to be updated for 11.0 (It was at that time the only other game that they added ASLR for, although IIRC the eshop had it for a while longer than that) You are correct to say that it wasn't happening for most of those games before, though.

The reason you, personally, didn't experience this is because the CFW solution to ASLR is to prevent it entirely, which is done silently and transparently for the end user.

I was also forced to update because I wanted to access the eshop to download SMT4: Apocalypse. I actually made a comment on the video of the guy you posted on Youtube on installing steelhax on 11.1

Hoping he can answer the questions.
i actually watched his videos, his title was very misleading. I had steelhax before the update, but i updated and added the payload bin, apparaently this doesnt work for me, He said, delete 2 certain files but i could not find it.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

For Steelhax you have to rename it to steelhax_payload.bin and then hold the B Button while the screen is loading. No one mentions the part where you have to hold down the B Button also. I found out by asking this person that made a tutorial video for steelhax.
i just wanted to clarify, the payload bin"otherapp.bin" was renamed as steelhax_payload.bin, its exactly what i did. but it ends up crashing the game, every single time, and restarting the system

Still got a single unanswered question for confirmation...
I'm still at 11.0, and already got Steelhax installed before the update, do I only need to download that otherapp payload & rename it to steelhax_payload.bin?

Do I need to also run the hax once before updating, after I put the steelhax_payload.bin to the root of my SD card? Or run Steelhax after updating?

i updated to 11.1, and downloaded otherapp, and renamed steelhax_payload.bin, it only crashed the game every time, and restarted the whole system, there must be something extra going on.

Can I update with Reinand and still have a working JKSM(I think)? Use it to import/export my file for Animal crossing. I have a title manager deal that I use to install .cia, and a play coin setter, will those stay working as well?

Try downloading the payload for 11.1 and your system model/region, replace the one you have now, then run steelhax after updating while holding B. I don't really know what else to do since I didn't get it before the update dropped, only after. If you have custom firmware, make a backup of your NAND first before you update.

Ok...
One more thing though...

Do I need to delete those 000002cd & 0000008f folders? It won't soft- or hard-brick my system?
I just noticed now (by watching again the backed up files from my SD card before doing a system transfer, which is 1 day before the update happened, and the 0000008f wasn't there already) that I haven't deleted that 000002cd folder when I installed Steelhax before the update, but I'm able to make Steelhax work anyway after only 2 "corrupted file" messages.

I do not know the answer to that question unfortunately.

Okay, I've no idea if this was pointed out already (and am to lazy to study the entire thread), but I'm just going to leave it here:
On my New 3DS without cfw, since I updated to 11.1, I've got the problem that certain titles would freeze at a yellow screen when select via homebrew, such as HANS or svdt. I tried oot3dhax and steelhax.
It does not happen on my 2DS with luma, no idea why. I use mmap on both systems to bypass the 9.6 crypto.

Now, here is the thing: I can select almost all of my games, cartridges as well as digital titles, except for:
- Pokemon ORAS
- Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon
- The legend of Zelda OOT 3D
- Sub wars steeldiver
- Freakyforms Deluxe
- Cubic Ninja

*Puts on tinfoil hat*
PASLR prevents those games from working properly with HANS and svdt. It's also the reason the sploit installer for OoT3D won't work above 10.7. It will work in CFW however because most CFW disables PASLR.

It didn't work on you? In my side (still at 11.0), it only crashed twice before it worked...
When it crashed, did it say, gave an message"error has occured, the system will be restarted". Also before 11.1, i took me over 40 installs to finally get it to work, could this be the reason. I also redownloaded homebrew menu launcher, and steelhax as well, i wonder if this has anything to do with it.

Whoops I mis-quoted there. I meant it only gave me the "Corrupted file" message twice at Steel Diver before the Steelhax finally worked.
EDIT: Was it because I've already removed Menuhax via the uninstall option from Menuhax manager before moving on to Steelhax?

So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM

  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:

still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
