wifi strength needs buffing!!!

is there a way to boost the strength of my wifi from my router for better streaming and usage in general?? my wifi is weak and I only get like 2-3 bars on my kindle fire hd 6 and pc but, full bars on my n3ds.. there is a wifi extender in the kitchen... I need help getting better wifi for future things like game streaming and gaming... I can't even play smash bros on my 3ds without constant lag every second... I need like a suggestion an app that can help scan for things that might be weakening my wifi or some tips on how to increase its power)

There are a bunch of cheap ways to extend your wi-fi range on youtube. Good way to repurpose the old tinfoil hat!

Other than relocating the router (if it is by your front door then you are broadcasting out into the street, put it upstairs in the middle of the house and that changes) and making a mesh/repeater/multiple AP setup you have a few options. Do note you can also stick a wifi card on a computer and use that as a secondary access point if you are so inclined, you can also run a cable or use ethernet over powerline to do it..
1) See if you have an option, by hack by simple config, to boost the transmission power. Technically this could be illegal but if you live in the country or don't think anybody will find out then it can do things.
2) Make sure the antennae, if any, are set properly. They are not just dangly protrusions there for fun.
3) Buy better wifi cards. Not an option for the 3ds and tablet really but if you want to buy some monster card for a PC rather than a nearly flush USB thing it helps.
4) Make sure there is nothing blocking the signal. Not usually a problem in houses, or at least one you can sort easily, but I have seen people put wifi the wrong side of a lift motor room and wonder what is causing a signal loss.

One option a friend of mine used is to get a HomePlug/power line adapter that has built in WiFi. It got him a decent signal in his room on the far end of the house from the router. However this can be a bit pricey for one with decent speed...

Spend $30 on a wifi extender. Could never get more than 1 bar in my room, so I bought one, put it right outside my room, and I get basically max speed with it. Routers and extenders should be in plain sight otherwise your blocking the signal.

I bought a pro series indoor access point and a pro series outdoor range extender. (I needed wireless in my garage and it's a ways away from the house)
Now, I get over half a mile away from the house and still have wifi. You may not need that much but money buys better toys.

IIRC in some cases, it may be better to just have a different hotspot. Set up another router on the same subnet, with the same SSID and Password(but different IPs and MAC addresses), and most devices will connect to whichever one has a stronger signal.
