Objectively, it is cheating but no one really cares and it get swept under the rug.

Just put sav on legit cart then it will work
Oh boi, a typical useful hacksn5s4 post again

1) He's playing the games on a R4. "it would need an original retail cartridge" implies he doesn't have the games.
2) Nothing says he has access to CFW. He has access to 3DS save dumping, yes, but if he's on 11.0 (no A9LH) and doesn't have Dream Radar installed, then he can't dump/inject DS saves.

How is it not save editing? lol

I personally don't consider it cheating and I bet most players wouldn't.

Nintendo would, but that's because you're cheating them out of the $5/year they ask to provide an inferior service...
Actually, I'm going to get Pokébank, it's just that I don't have Pokémon Black 2 and Pokémon Platinum to do it entirely legitimately.

In a certain way, could you say that:
1. Trading Pokémon is basically Nintendo getting a .pk6 file of your Pokémon, deleting it, and then injecting it in the other game?
2. The game generating a Pokémon is basically you generating a Pokémon with PokéSav or Pokégen (of course, removing the randomness)?

dunno why I didn't think of doing this myself. as long as they aren't changed I'd say it's just crafty thinking

ANYTHING UNINTENDED BY DEVELOPER IS CHEATING.

Using third party tools, yes.
Abusing the game engine without any third party tool, no.

  • Glitches (Although debate between programer fault for lack of fixes and player fault for exploiting it such as ar spider)
Ehh, abusing glitches/bugs etc isn't cheating.
It's the developer their fault for lousy debugging.

Bottom line, if you got something with help of some other tool, you cheated. To be honest is no means of justifing cheating.
Fact, i cheated on my kingdom hearts 2 final mix to beat the lingering will on critial mode. Those conditions are unfair if you fought him before. :P

No he isn't.
There's something called level grinding and item farming.
Eternal Sonata has a boss which has 4 million HP in Encore mode and I had no issue defeating him.
Besides, it kinda sounds like you're contradicting yourself.
Saying there's no justification if you where to use external tools to gain an unfair advantage yet you try and justify your own cheating on KH2 FM's Lingering will on Critical mode.

As for OP.
It's a kind of a grey area.
I personally don't see it as cheating, you're just doing something you're supposed to do via a different way.

I use an R4i and I'm currently playing all Pokémon games to have Pokédex completed legitimately. But I cannot transfer them over to XY/ORAS because it would need an original retail cartridge, same goes from DPPt to BW. For you, does transferring Pokémon using .pk6 files count as cheating?
Use a CWF to transfer via CIAs next time. No need for retail cartridges.

I'm also going to get CFW. It's just that I don't think there are cias of Nintendo DS games and that would need two consoles. I have 3 3DSs (I have 2 brothers, each one have one 3DS), but they don't like this kind of thing, so they won't let me put CFW on theirs.

EDIT: Confirmed. The only NDS ROMs available as cias are DSiWare ones, which doesn't have Pokémon.

Oh, OK, I understand now.

Let's look at the definition of cheating.

"act dishonestly or unfairly in order to gain an advantage, especially in a game or examination."

So I don't see how anyone can say how this is cheating. It's not how you're supposed to do it certainly, but he's not acting dishonestly or unfairly, and he isn't gaining an advantage whatsoever. He's not editing the pokemon, just transferring them. Which you can do with pokebank with the same outcome.

Yup, cheated the hell out of him. Maxed out my hp to 255, Maxed out my level, and my stats. he went down in 20 minutes. He deserved it in my opinion. After 12 hours, yeah i cheated. I admit to it. No problem. :P

People who say "anything unintended by the developer is cheating" have way too strict a definition of cheating.

Is this cheating? No. But it's illegitimate.

There is definitely a distinction between illegitimate and cheating. Cheating provides an unfair advantage. Illegitimate methods to do something which don't actually provide benefits, do not.
