Hacking Will Henkaku eventually enable us to overclock?

Most of us knows that Vita only runs at 333mhz ( or 444mhz when wifi is disabled ), and also low GPU clock speed. While I'm not sure how far down the device does Henkaku have access to, but it sure would be nice to be able to get a higher clock speed, with some sacrifice on battery life, since the CPU itself is claimed to be able to run up to 2Ghz.

With that, maybe all the games that has been lagging would run much smoother, and there would also be much more potential on homebrew scene given the boost in performance.

You're forgetting the part about the heat generated. The equipment is likely not manufactured for the extra heat and components of the console will likely damage.
Anyhow, currently most of the homebrew still need optimisation and bug fixing, emulators won't just run smoother if you bump up the cpu clocks.

Well, emulators will run smoother if you bump up the clock speed, but optimizing the emulation is a much more efficient way of doing it, until you reach the point where you can't do that anymore.

agree. but with the current clockspeed that we are running, I dont think clocking it 20% higher would bring the heat up to the extend where it would harm the hardware. I'm not saying that we would run at 2Ghz, but if we can get it running at say, 600mhz , and hopefully with the heat under control, I certainly would like to give it a go. Again, nothing I said have any proof of any sort, just more like speculation and wishful thinking, but sure feels good if we could do it.

For the homebrew part, I agree that they still need a lot of optimization, but bumping CPU clocks would definitely help it running faster, but ultimately, optimizing apps would be best in our situation. What I meant was just that more performance would bring us to having even better homebrew or even native apps or games, for instance, maybe 3DS emulator a couple of years down the road when PC version is already finalized, or some app that just require higher performance by its nature, or Vita games that tend to drop frames( like Gundam Breaker 2 and 3 ) to stay stable on their targetted frames.

Also 333mhz for low api is actually way more than 1.8Ghz of jumbled mess of Android/iOS system.

Case in point Killzone on Vita.

Also both CPU and GPU are 4 core modules and current emulators rarely use more than 1 cpu core and 1 gpu core.

To get power out of vita you need to first code for 4 core cpus and 4 core gpus but yeah it would be coold to overclock cpu or gpu a bit.,

For most emulators, having multiple cores is near-useless, whether it is on the Vita or on a PC. What really matters to speed up emulation is a better clock speed.

it's not that I don't know how good they are already performing, but there are games that almost never reached their targeted frames, like Gundam Breaker 3 for instance. There are also some scenes in FFX where the framerate dips for a little. What I am saying is that a minor overclock at maybe 555mhz or 666mhz, and also boost from GPU would help them to stay stable on their targeted fps, and we get better experience out of it. Also, I recall seeing a lot of emulators having multithreading support already, that by default would already mean that multicore is supported. Then again, i might be wrong about the emulator part, since I do not follow much on the in depth technical implementation for an emulator. In addition to that, maybe a browser with a better browsing experience too when we have more performance. These are what I meant by giving the Vita more potential, not too much on 10-20% gain for emulators.

If it's actually possible, I think it'll be more useful on the PSTV where power consumption isn't an issue and something can be figured out to deal with heat.
well, I have not experience any heating at all from Vita so far, dont even recall it getting warm in prolonged sessions, although I hardly did that. Since we are running at merely 333mhz now, a simple push to maybe a 500-700mhz range would greatly boost performance, and from my experience on mobilephone cpu clockspeed adjustment so far, it will not significantly boost the heat, since it is still well under 50% of what the chip is originally configured to run on a consumer setup. Maybe with that, we will see a drop of almost 5 hours battery life to maybe less than 4 hours of batter life, but for me, it's not a great deal, since powerbanks are easily accessed in my country.

The hope I have with overclock is not really about 'yay now these emulators run faster now with overclock that I can play them properly', but more towards 'games are now at a very stable framerate thanks to minor overclocking', and 'since performance is better, now we can create <insert app here> for the homebew community', which gives the vita much more potential, and also lifespan for us
