Hello everyone, I'm about to cry :(
As explained in this thread, my backup loaders refuse to work. Begin desperate as I am now, I'm willing to restart the vWii hacking from zero. I know it is not necessary to remove anything, just to overwrite.
But where should I start? The Homebrew Channel is already there (so why reinstalling it?), and I reinstalled the cIOS mentioned in the guide, so what should I do next? Formatting the SD perhaps?

I have a question regarding a hard drive. I did the softmod for VWii, so it's up and running. I have a hard drive already for Wii games that I used on my Wii, so would I need to get a Y cable in order to use it entirely on vWii? It already has a power source, so I figured that it would work, but USB Loader GX doesn't recognize it.

if it has an external power source, you don't need a Y-Cable. the power source is providing enough power for the drive to function correctly.
the Y-cable is needed only for drives which get the power from USB.

If USBLoaderGX doesn't recognize your drive, did you try to set the loader's IOS setting to 58 ?

On a WII : Use the USB port closest to the edge
On a WIIU : use the USB port furthest away from the edge aka. the inner usb port

perhaps that will help??

My capture card uses the same type of USB y-cable, so I tested it out using those cables for my hard drive, even with the power source it still needed the Y-cables to work. The back ports of the Wii U showed it, however it only recognizes the Gamecube games and not the Wii ones. Any idea why's that? Would I need to change the default IOS in settings?

that's kind of strange that the external power is not enough to power the drive. but if it works now, it's good.

About wii games, maybe :
- you didn't select Wii (it automatically disabled it if your USB wasn't found on a previous launch). I guess I will change that and prevent it from being disabled, lot of users don't understand how to put it back.
Go to 4th icon in the top menu, and enable Wii games.
- You didn't put the games in the correct folder or filename. Use WiiBackupManager to put the games on your drive.
- You changed a filtering setting (favorite, parental control or categories)
- You have multiple partitions on your drive, but selected the wrong one (settings>hdd menu>first option)

Can I ask which controllers are compatible with the NES and SNES emulators in this guide? Tried a site search and a Google search and didn't find anything on what to use with the WiiU.

The guide is great, so many thanks for that. I have backed up my GC and Wii collections now :) I only had a small issue. I couldn't get Ustealth to recognise a hidden USB drive once I plugged it back into the PC. I'll just live with the nag, otherwise I'd have to reformat the drive in the PC and lose all my data in order to make the PC recognise it to add new files. It's a WD drive with external power supply, but it didn't like being formatted and the vWii always failed to recognise it, though the Wii U itself could recognise it. Swapped to a different drive now as I just could not work out the issue.

While installing the homebrew channel, I put install the channel and then pressed exit. The channel did not come up and I try to do it again but it tells me I can't anymore. Did I screw up and can never get the channel?

Any Wii official controllers will work, or if you can get ahold of FIX94's builds, you can use a Wii U Pro Controller. I recommend the Classic Controller which hooks into a Wii mote.

You need to be a lot more specific. You got the hack to work with your game? Can you still get it to work? When does it say you can't anymore and what exactly does it say?

For the USB loader gx set up, can I use a flash drive instead of a hard drive or do I skip it?
You can try and use a flash drive, however they generally don't work unless you try a couple things. If you plan to try it, make sure you grab the latest version and then set the loader to boot from IOS58.

In USB GX? Probably means your flash drive doesn't have any space? Or it might not be able to properly read your drive. Did you format the drive to FAT32?
Yea, I used bootice and Ustealth like the guide said and formatted to FAT32. Somewhere in the guide it says flash drive might not be able to dump a disc to a flash drive. I tried to dump SSBB but it told me the error

That's odd, maybe try dumping another disc, or loading a game from the USB? Also try changing the IOS TO IOS58 in the settings.

I went to loader setting and change loader's IOS to IOS58 and had the same problem. I will try to back them up on my computer and move them to the flashdrive and see if that works.

ah, the error message is only when dumping?
then yes, it could be caused by the flash being incompatible.

if it's at the bottom of the main screen, it should list free space (wrong or correctly) but you can still launch already installed games.

This guide is awesome, followed it to the letter using bathax and it worked flawlessly. Just waiting for my splitter cable so I can get USB Loader running! Many thanks :-)

Not a problem, if you have any issues getting the USB HDD set up, just post back!
