I assume you already know how to increase the luminosity up to level 5, right? (Icon in the top left bottom screen while in HOME menu)

And level 5 is still not bright enough? Then either the machine is faulty or your expectations might be too high. Level 5 is way too bright here. I typically use level 3.

With the older versions of Config you could set the brightness to 12 or so lol (which would be as bright as 5 and crash the official brightness settings)...

I would guess that you don't want to make your own backlight driver (a piece of hardware) right? :)

I understand your point. Never tried mine in the bright sunlight. Even if a hack existed to boost it to say level 6 or 7, wouldn't it be dangerous for the screen to display at such an intensity?

Pretty much every device has this issue. There's really no workaround besides making your screen so bright it harms the device, depending on the intensity. Maybe try putting a tarp over your head and the 2DS, so it's dark enough to see? Or make a little tunnel, and it could be reminiscent of the Virtual Boy.

If we somehow could increase the voltage to the leds, it would be bad once we get too far... but the brightness is probably adjusted with "PWM": the light is turned on and off extremely quickly, so that option 5 = on 100% of the time, 4 = 80%, ... in which case it's plainly impossible to get over 100%!
