I have had this 32 gb sd card with my new3ds ever since I got it.
However I am running into a continuing problem where it keeps getting disconnected half way through playing a game.
advice?
I have arm9 luma3ds 11.0

is it a single game or all the games, specific games?
is it a micro sd card with adapter?

if it's a fully sized sd card, try to put a sticker on the top part so it forces the contacts to stay connected
and you know, the normal procedure of checking for dirt and dust

micro sd and it is disconnecting for everything, even health and safety.

I think my arm9loader.bin is corrupt.

where can I get a arm9loaderhax.bin?

https://github.com/AuroraWright/Luma3DS/releases
here you can get it, download luma, and replace the arm9loader

5.4 version has a SHA-1 of 6B6A1B2E3B215DBEC7EF87C60EEAD5AB1D24C761
and MD5 6CEB9501AFC1847CB6E2F2FF1543064E

you can use a md5 tool to verify if the file is good, (compare it to the codes i provided)

What brand is it? You should always get SanDisk for the most reliable
I've honestly had more problems with SanDisk than any other brand, especially their newer cards. Samsung has always been most reliable for me but I guess it's luck of the draw.

Brand name on SD cards probably doesn't matter that much (i.e. Samsung vs. PNY vs. SanDisk vs. other name brands); I'd instead argue that what matters is you don't buy them from Ebay or Amazon unless you have some guarantee that they'll not be fake (e.g. Fulfilled by Amazon the vast majority of the time won't have issues). Even then though, it never hurts to run software tests to make sure.

I think mine was just used too much for downloading files.......next time I am going to get a samsung though.

thanks now I can get a samsung 128 GB and get a refund on my sandisk XD
Good choice, Samsung is reliable when it comes to memory. I have the 64 gb Evo+ micro sd and I recently upgraded my computer's hdd to a samsung 1tb pro SSD; they both perform really well
