Maybe one day emunand will be a thing. It's hard when it is on a console everyone plays on and not a 3ds where really only you play on unless you are a competitive pokemon player or something.

Why isn't this bigger news? 3.50 is the latest firmware.

PS4 doesn't auto-update so we can actually leave out net settings alone (unlike the Wii U).

I guess because it was announced on the sub reddit which I didn't even know it existed until yesterday. Soon Wolo will get to it then more people might know it is a thing and decide to do stuff with it.

All these people saying they won't update past 3.50 because they want to use hacks later on (I'll admit, I'm one of them. I switched my PS4 from rest mode to completely off).
Here's the thing though, we won't be able to access the PSN Store, Friends List, or even be able to play online once a new update is released, so if you're one of those people who love playing COD or whatever... yeah, good luck.
Or if you buy your games digitally (such as myself), guess we're temporarily gonna have to go physical. Then there's the fact that if we wait too long some games will prompt you to update anyways.

Would be cool if/when we get hacks for 3.50, we can get something like NNU-patcher so we can still access stuff like the PSN Store even when not on the latest firmware.

That is actually why I try to stick to friends on Steam since it allows me to reduce the temptation of updating my console to a unhacked firmware. Or at least until there is a solution to allow online play without losing the hacks, like the Wii U (although I still have not tried to add any friends on any of my consoles recently). But I do understand how it can be hard, especially if your friends are mostly there.

That would be nice. If the kernel allows memory manipulation (which I have a feeling it would, but don't use me as proof!), then it might be possible.

It's always that decision, ultimately. We have to pick between those services and a hacked setup. In my case, my PS4 has a literal layer of dust gathered since I built a new gaming PC last year, so I have no particular qualms with keeping the thing offline if I means it becomes hackable.

One of my biggest regrets is updating my PS3 in the early days of the hacks simply because nothing interesting was available at the time. I now look with envy at the stuff now available on exploitable PS3 systems. I nearly made that same mistake again with the Wii U (thank god for the recent 5.5.1 exploit leak). Not making that same mistake again with the PS4.

Yeah, I feel you. I'll probably have a limit though, there are a few games coming out later in the year what I plan on buying on the PS4 (won't be until September though), so I won't be able to keep it offline for that long

I make a similar mistake like that too (although it was because I wanted Portal 2 on the PC [It had the "if you buy the PS3 version, you can get the PC version also!" deal]). Looking back, I have learned that great things come to people who wait. So I avoid making that same mistake that I did before.

... I was reading on Wololo's blog about this, as well as Steam running off the PS4 which seemed insane!

I might keep my internet off my PS4 now, and get a PS4K for actual gaming when it releases.

So, aside from the obvious piracy which can be accomplished down the line, what kind of homebrew can we expect to see?! With the power of the PS4, I'm actually very interested in that!

If you stay on 3.50, there's nothing they can do, because if they tried to change the way the system currently works now (you choose when to update), then you would have to update, which defeats the purpose.

As for the homebrew, that depends on developers, as the PS4 is more than capable of running really awesome homebrew (I believe). As for the emulators, you can almost surely expect some.

And the trophies, I believe so, but I'm not exactly sure. From what I can tell, there is an offline component to trophies, right?

Correct. I recommend that you disable downloading/installing automatic software updates in the system settings to ensure you don't accidentally update in case Sony happens to releases a patch.

@laharl22 To add on to what he said, the PS4 playground is responsible for loading Linux. So once that is updated with the new kernel and userland exploit, then you should be able to load Linux.

Since this is Linux we are talking about, as long as the Linux game can communicate with Mac/Windows version (which most of the games I have already played are) of the games, you should be able to.

Garry's Mod (I remember connecting with one of my friends who plays on Windows) you should be able to, but Garry Newman does not seem that interested fixing any Linux specific bugs...

Yes, this has already been possible on firmware 1.76. It just that the tools needs to be updated to 3.50 firmware.
