Would it be possible to run (or emulate) an older version of Android (Eclair, Fro-yo, Gingerbread, etc) on a old or new 3Ds?

It's very unlikely.

The Nintendo 3ds isn't made for this.
Specs are way below the requirement.
Actually, RAM and CPU are just below average for an old version with a backported ART, but perfectly plausible.
The main problem here is that the GPU just sucks *really* badly, so even if you were to make a driver for Linux 3DS with integrated patches from Android, it'd still run way below spec, given how Android uses the GPU for EVERYTHING (remember Android on the RPi? Even worse)

It's perfectly possible to run something like X11 / Wayland composer with IceWM though, and it somehow looks pretty spectacular for 400x240 :)

I mean Technically you could get it to run (just like you could technically get a ps4 emulator on it), but it wouldn't be anything feasible due to the hardware constraints (in both cases) of the 3ds.

This has nothing to do with Android. It's just a menu with a pretty UI, and I don't know if they're planning it as a replacement for the home menu or the Homebrew Launcher.
I don't think @Joel16 wants to replace the Home Menu, but it's more than fit to replace The Homebrew Launcher (not in it's current state, but it's getting somewhere)

The Android has only one thing I would like to see on 3ds: Clash of Clans
You mean the reason why 1/2 of my friends are relatively antisocial?
Yeah, I love that thing

On topic; I would die if Android ran well on the 3ds. I really dont see it

(To be fair theres still no Full 3D Accelerated Driver yet even for the RPi3. that is why the android ports for it suck ass.)

but ontopic the 3DS might be able to run ok enough w/ Android 2.1but all the games you'd want these days Want 4.0+ Minimum. and only an N3DS would run "Passable" at that.. Just not enough memory at all w/ the O3DS.

I personally would like to see more Android apps on the 3DS. If we could have the Social Networking apps, Limbo, Pocket Tanks, Reaper, Plague Inc. and of course PornHub, I think we'd be set :3

Running Android on a 3DS is as likely as running Windows 10 on an Apple II.
Android 5.1 already requires 512 MB RAM, even the New 3DS (128 MB usable RAM, 256 MB total RAM) doesn't meet this requirement!
Then I guess I don't need to explain the other specs anymore, right?
