Hi.

Actually, I have a 2DS with RxTools, one Emunand in 10.7 very full of games and saves, a Sysnand in 4.6 with little mess around (but nothing very risky here) and HomeMenuHax.

So, I read everywhere that RxTools is outdated, and it's a good thing to upgrade to (Au)ReiNand with A9LH for recovering from a brick, 100% boot rate, and some interesting things.

I decided to read some tutorial but for me, it's very hard to understand after the "RxTools time", but I think I can do it.

So now, my questions are :
  • Do you thinks it's a good idea to switch from RxTools to ReiNand + A9LH ?
  • Can I keep my games or savefiles from my Emunand after that ?
  • I read somewhere it's possible to merge/Swap Emunand and Sysnand, like we only need ONE NAND for all the things, what the actual f*ck ?
That all, thanks for your reply in advance !

Backup your sd card data, once it is done and your emunand backed up, just reflash the emunand to it's partition, and copy the sd card content back :)

Game data is pulled back into sysnand in section 5 of the guide, after all of the required downgrading is done...

If you just want to be sure you can restore your EmuNand, after finishing setting up AuRei just Backup your EmuNand then restore it to SysNand

EDIT: AuRei or Cakes but i recommend AuRei

How many people do you suppose are primary contributors to the other cfw's out there?
So true, but the problem with Rx"tools" vs. Aureinand or Reinand is that they're still active in the development process of their cfw.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

More than 1? lol. 5 people were working on rxTools before it died
I think they were comparing the number of people currently working on Rx"tools" to the number of people currently working on other individual cfws which, you probably know, is 1 main person for each cfw.

You'd be incorrect with that presumption. There's usually one main developer with the current cfw's and a handful of people that help out with an occasional one off feature (sometimes a good one off feature, but still)

Correct...that's the problem, they have a lot of playing "catch up" to do before the feature sets are where other cfw's. Really it shouldn't be a competition between the cfw's though, plenty of room for all of them to co-exist.

It's too late for Rx"tools". Their catching up would go to waste as more people migrate to Aureinand or Reinand or perhaps even Cakes.

Basically from my limited understanding is that a9lh is "built in" entry point for custom firmware. Essentially it takes the place of menuhax/OoTHax/Cubic Ninja/Browserhax.

My opinion:
1) It's worth the headache to install a9lh.
2) I believe so - I was running rxTools on one of my o3DSes, and you can choose to restore your EmuNAND - if it has a CIA installer
3) A9LH is a built in entry point for your CFW, and your CFW can allow you to update your sysnand to the latest version. Some people still run an emunand when they use A9LH, but that's because of Gateway. I installed it on four original 3DSes just so that I could get a "vanilla" looking system.

My tips:
- read and reread the steps before going ahead with the installation
- keep all your nand backups - I didn't, and now I have a few difficulties if I need to uninstall A9LH (eg. need to send to Nintendo for repairs)
- make sure your wifi is on - the last step in getting your OTP file requires it - and you will brick or get stuck there
- basically, the procedure is: create an emunand/rednand, inject your health and safety app with a cia installer (in emu/rednand), format the red/emunand twice, downgrade it to 2.1, check and write the downgraded 2.1 emunand to the actual sysNAND, retrieve your OTP file, restore the NAND backup of your choice, install the OTP file and setup the CFW.
