In Plailect's arm9loaderhax guide, it says that to swap from Cakes to AuReiNand, you just have to follow "Preparatory Work". However, there are some steps that aren't necessary, like copying OTP.bin, since we're not reinstalling arm9loaderhax. So I cut out a bunch of steps I didn't need, but when I tried to turn on my console, the blue light stayed on with the screens black! Changing back to the previous arm9loaderhax.bin fixed that luckily. So, I am wondering, what do I need to ACTUALLY do to change to AuReiNand? These are the steps, I have marked which ones, in red, that I did NOT follow:

Section I - Preparatory work
  1. Delete the Decrypt9 folder from the root of your SD card if you have one - no Decrypt9 folder
  2. Copy the a9lh folder from data_input.zip to the root of your SD Card
  3. Copy and merge the a9lh folder from payload_input.zip to the root of your SD Card
  4. Copy your console specific OTP.bin (the one you got in Part 4) to the /a9lh/ folder on the root of your SD card not reinstalling arm9loaderhax so I don't see why I need this
  5. Copy and merge the 3ds folder from the SafeA9LHInstaller zip to the root of your SD card not reinstalling arm9loaderhax so I don't see why I need this
  6. Copy SafeA9LHInstaller.dat from the SafeA9LHInstaller zip to the root of your SD card not reinstalling arm9loaderhax so I don't see why I need this
  7. Copy hblauncher_loader.cia from the hblauncher_loader zip to the root of your SD card already have homebrew launcher installed
  8. Copy arm9loaderhax.bin and the aurei folder from the AuReiNand zip to the root of your SD card
  9. Create a new folder called payloads in the /aurei/ folder
  10. Copy Decrypt9WIP.bin from the Decrypt9WIP zip to the /aurei/payloads/ folder on your SD card
  11. In the /aurei/payloads folder, rename Decrypt9WIP.bin to def_Dec9.bin
  12. Copy and merge the 3DS folder from the EmuNAND9 zip to the root of your SD card
  13. Copy EmuNAND9.bin from the EmuNAND9 zip to the /aurei/payloads/ folder on your SD card
  14. In the /aurei/payloads folder, rename EmuNAND9.bin to y_EmuN9.bin
  15. Copy Uncart.bin from the Uncart zip to the /aurei/payloads/ folder on your SD card
  16. In the /aurei/payloads folder, rename Uncart.bin to x_Uncart.bin
  17. Copy slot0x05KeyY.bin, slot0x11key96.bin, slot0x1BKeyX.bin, and slot0x25keyX.bin to the root of your SD card already have these
  18. Copy firmware.bin from the AuReiNand NTR Firmware zip to the /aurei/ folder on your SD card
  19. Copy MiniPasta.3dsx and MiniPasta.smdh to the /3ds/ folder on your SD card already have these
  20. Copy your emuNAND_original.bin backups from Section I to the root of your SD card not planning on doing any restoring, don't know why I need this

You can actually have both, if your SD:/arm9loaderhax just redirects to a payload

Just make AuReiNand your default A9LH payload, and extract the A9LH.bin payload from Cakes.dat with the following command in your command prompt/terminal:

Code:
dd if=Cakes.dat of=arm9loaderhax.bin bs=512 skip=144

Then add Cakes and any other payloads like D9/E9/Uncart to your AuReiNand payload folder (you no longer need Cakes.dat), naming it after the hotkey you want to hold on boot to launch it.

I believe the folder is SD:/aurei/payloads/ and you'd name them files like "a.bin", "x.bin", "default.bin", ...
Looks like Aurora changed the payload filename syntax 3 days ago. The updated Plailect guide steps you just posted seem to reflect that, too, so I'm not sure why you're black-screening... Maybe double file extensions? Does holding Select display the AuReiNand config menu?

Oh, and "default" is actually Start. Otherwise, not pressing anything will launch AuReiNand, and holding Select will go into AuReiNand settings.

Thanks! I posted this just before I went to bed, hoping for a reply by morning and I'd fix it up before I went to work. But gbatemp decided to have 504 Gateway timeout all this morning (seems to have just come back) so will have to wait till tonight :-p Thanks for replying so fast, I should have stayed up a little longer!!

Is this similar with rxTools? (currently on rxTools not cakes/rei)
I think you might have an easier time transitioning to AuReiNand, actually: Like rxtools, it has regionfree, supports NTR, and auto-patches GBA/DSi VC emulation (TWL_FIRM and AGB_FIRM)

I'd even say AuReiNand is better than RxTools: it's less bulky (13mb versus ~2mb or so) and supports A9LH, if you ever plan to upgrade to that.

Is there a similar guide for transitioning from rxTools to AuiRei? if so, i'd probably go along with that along side A9LH seeing as its quite common and variable to use.

You actually don't need A9LH to set up AuReiNand: It's just putting a couple of files on your sd card and tweaking your boot.cfg if you're using autoboot+menuhax.

... but if you want a 100% consistent boot rate, 8 second bootup, permanent solution to unbrick sysnand, and have 3 hours to kill, then follow this guide starting from part 4: https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki/Part-4-(Getting-the-OTP)

EDIT: Oh, and pretend that every instance of "RedNand" in that guide (and every program it tells you to run) says "EmuNand", because it's very likely you've already set up EmuNand.

Do you want a9lh or do you want to keep menuhax (I presume :D)?

I plan to move over to A9LH with AuiRei :)

Thank you!~ going to read over the guide twice c: user error will probably brick me eventually but till then!
