I just bought a console off Amazon and scored with with a version of 1.0.2 U!

I have a few questions I'd like to solidify before I start tampering:
  1. What version should I upgrade to? 5.3.2? 5.4? 5.3.2
  2. And how should I upgrade to avoid 5.5.1? Bought a game with 5.3.2 on it -- Splatoon I heard that SSB has 5.3.2 baked in, I was thinking about using Game Fly to rent it just to get the console up to 5.3.2 to use Loadiine.
  3. Is blocking the standard set of URLs through my router safe enough? DNS Routing on your Wii U should be safe, but you should block the update URLS on your router too if possible.
  4. Standard 2GB SD Card and no larger right? WRONG. Get this 64GB Card: amazon.com/gp/product/B00WWBCSG4

Thanks!

1. 5.3.2 is the best right now.
2. Yeah, Game disc update to 5.3.2 is the best option, which game - sry, don't know. another one pls answer.
3. Use smealums dns, it will block nintendo's update server.
4. That was for ssbb and wii, there is no limitation

Thanks! So with Loadiine can I load games from USB? Or do I have to put them on SD Card? To the point, should I get a big SD Card? Why or why not?

Yes, big SD card, because they locked down what can access USB so that only IOSU and ARM can, as well as all internal media. They do provide an API for SD card access which is why you have to use SD (don't quote me on the IOSU part but that's what I remember)

I'll probably order this then: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BTYZ3GM/

Actually it looks like the max supported is 32GB. Can anyone validate if they have gotten a 64GB SDCard working?

DON'T! That's a microSD card! To use that in the Wii U you'll have to use an adapter which will make loading times in Loadiine even worse.
I personally vouch for this card: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00WWBCSG4

And yes, 64GB cards work. The one I mentioned above hasn't failed me yet.

Got to 5.3.2 successfully with Splatoon.

To ensure I don't get updated, is setting DNS routing on the Wii U sufficient?

I just want to say that I love how you are editing your post with the answered questions. That makes it so much easier if others come in here wanting to know the same things.

I wish more people would take the time to do that instead of just abandoning the thread it just saying problem solved, delete.

I've been using a SanDisk Extreme PRO 128GB UHS-I/U3 for months with zero problems.

About the only issue I ran into was Loadiine GX2 has a limit of 48 Games displayed when using Full Sized Covers in Carousel mode.
The 49th Cover overlays the first and so on.

It's no problem if you use GX2 in Icon Carousal mode - I've got up to 60 on it now and it displays them all fine.

I have a 128GB Sandisk Ultra microSD with 80MB read speed and works perfectly formatted with 64K Cluster Size.

Total nonsense... It doesn't matter if it's a microsd or a regular one. The adapter is totally passive, just a few wires that adjust to the regular sd formfactor. There is no logic board with any chip etc. inside. See picture below.
I'm using several SanDisk microsd's with up to 95mb/sec. And a regular Extreme Pro with 512GB.
As long as it's formatted to FAT32 with 64k clusters you shouldn't have any issues.

And again, an adapter doesn't have any influence on loading times.

@Irastris Please don't spead any false information or rumours and confuse newbies if you don't have the technical expertise how a sd-adapter works...

Cheers,

There's still no practical reason for him to get a microSD, since he's getting a card for the express purpose of Loadiine.
