Is this possible? Just seeing since I already have a 3DS and transfering to the normal N3DS from my N3DS XL
Anything directly tied to your system in the official sense (Nintendo-created content) can only be used by your system. This was to prevent piracy of DL games and stuff on the SD card. But anything not in the private or Nintendo 3DS directories can be accessed by another system.

Ouch so there is no way I can transfer my save datas from one 3DS to another?
Homebrew all of the 3DSes, extract the save with a manager, move the file to another system's SD card, inject the save with a save manager.

Buhhhh so there is no way just to move the save data :(

OH wait there is a way to move the save data?

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Ah ok I'll start on downgrading and whatnot for my normal N3DS and see how that goes. Should they both be on the same firmware as well?

You only can't move the "official" saves. Just extract the saves with SVDT or something, move them to another system's SD card, and using SVDT again, delete that target game's save, and copy the one you want onto the game .

It doesn't matter, because the save file itself is encoded to work with the game specifically, and system firmware or updates are irrelevant to the situation. So if you really wanted to, you could extract the lets say; Oot3d save from a system on firmware 9.2. If you injected the save on 10.6, it would still work regardless.

What do you mean by "official" saves?
The ones encoded in the 'private' folder of you 3DS sd card. These don't matter, and are unusable.

Ah so if I am using eShop games I'm not going to be able to use the save?

Doesnt a regular system transfer transfer saves? Wouldnt that be the whole reason to do it?

eShop game saves can be extracted with SVDT. I haven't had any that don't work, but maybe there are some.

Ah ok I guess I'll give it a try and work from there just didn't want to put an hour into something without knowing if anyone else has done it. Seems like I am one of the few that have questioned how to do this so guess I'll just work my way through it and ask for help when needed. I have no issues downgrading and installing things so I'll just do that and figure out after all this is ready :D

The problem is that requires updating which cancel out why I currently use my 3DS so much
Oh well if its for CFW, I would use JKs save manager to backup all of your saves it works with cartidge and digital games. Then you should be ables to just inject them all back in once you get it set back up.

Yeah someone said that and I'm currently downgrading right now so hopefully it is all good.... I have to eventually get another N3DS since I ended up with TN screens which bother me since my N3DS XL has a top screen IPS.

I think Nintendo's save-data backup feature produces a .sav file on the SD card. Does anyone know if that can be restored on a different console?

This is off-topic, but I believe IPS screens can be found for $60-70 on eBay.

ALL small new 3DS consoles have TN screens.
