A9LH was installed successfully on N3DS XL and O3DS, but N3DS XL bricked many times trying to obtain the OTP. Presumably due to user error. No problems with the installer, though.

What exactly do you call "complications" ?
Other than having to create new emuNANDs (not just format them through system settings but recreate one from sysNAND, to have a 9.2 emuNAND that worked better than 10.5 for downgrading for some reason), I didn't have any problems getting OTPs.
So yeah, N3DS XL and O3DS XL on arm9loaderhax now

I have succesfully installed a9lh on two of my three owned systems and up to 8 users here in the forum have succesfully got it with a9lh installers compiled by me. No biggie. It's far more scary grabbing the otp.

Done 4 of my own, 3 others, and compiled a few for others. No problems whatsoever.

OTP on N3DS though is a chore due to needing all the xorpads. Though I just use emunand tool to dump emunand copies because its so much faster than waiting for decrypt 9 SD->SD transfer.

Somehow I didn't even think to use emunand tool for that purpose. I'll have to remember that for future OTP adventures.

Also with the arm9loaderhax do old ds flashcarts like acekard2i or r4 work?

Since this is supposed to be a results thread, I'll reiterate here:

N3DS: Was a region changed SysNAND unit, worked completely fine with no issues.
O3DS: OTP dump worked with complications (needed to update EmuNAND for it to downgrade) but A9LH installation bricked FIRM.

OTP guide itself is pretty proven now, and extremely safe.
A9LH installation is a clench moment, but I appear to be the exception.

DS carts aren't really part of what A9LH does, but if they have a valid banner (I know the original R4 doesn't) then Apache's TWL launcher would do.

Successfully installed on 9.2 O3DS XL. Without any kind of trouble.
And no hardmode.

I have dumped the OTP fine, but an bad compilation of a9lhax put me in some trouble.
After a Hardmod, everything went smoothly.

O3ds downgrading to 2.1 straight from 9.0 said downgrade was successful I haven't had any luck turning it on, recovery mode still an option or hardmod

You say that recovery mode still works? Try deleting extdata from the SD card then booting up again.

First try successful on both O3DS and N3DS. No hardmods.

Does it do the same thing as just removing the SD card? because that didn't work

Succeeded installing on my new 3DS. Considering those warnings popped up in the process compiling, I feel it's more scary running that 3dsx than downgrading the console to 2.1.
