Ok, I am new to this whole homebrew thing on 3DS. I am not sure what I can do or what is recommended. I would like to somehow make backups of my firmware just in case it updates so I can safely downgrade. Here is what I have right now:

Old 3DS XL with firmware 9.5.0-22U
New 3DS with firmware 10.3.0-28U

What can I do with these, install, etc? What would you all recommend to make the best of what I got so I can continue to do so in the future and not have to worry about them being patched up? Even if all of that is restricted to one system would be great. I am open to suggestions and links to help me get started. Thanks for the help in advance.

Also I would like to be able to use browserhax so I can continue using pkhex for Pokemon ORAS and XY.

I would downgrade both to 9.2 and set up rxtools emunand. Upgrade emunand to latest. If you still need spider browser exploit on 10.5 the browser can be downgraded although you will get update nags. Use hbl.cia to launch homebrew and you will have the option of pirate games via cia files

What is the benefit of doing the same with my new 3DS? I thought it was built not having the browserhax like the older models

Both support browserhax, just make sure you haven't gotten the update nag on your New 3DS.

But yeah, simply downgrade both and set up your n3DS with reiNAND, as rxTools doesn't support 10.5 emuNAND.

Just out of curiosity, is there a way I can backup and restore my system in case it bricks while downgrading?

Without a hardmod no. If it only softbricks however, you can do a restore, it will be 10.5, but at least it will live. The chances of either happening though are super low.

I appreciate the help. So far I am able to successfully launch into homebrew with browserhax, however i'm having a hard time with downgrading since it keeps freezing on the prompt and no buttons work. I'm following the guide by rebooting and trying again. May take a while lol

Open FTBrony first, then exit it and then open SafeSysUpdater. You should also install MenuHax in order to get increased chances of the downgrade process actually starting. If SafeSysUpdater tells you the files are good, you can alternatively use Julians build and use that for the downgrade process.

I installed menuhax on my old 3ds, but because it is 9.5 firmware, does that mean it won't work?

Not sure what you're asking. MenuHax should work on any 9.x I believe. There's no danger in trying anyway. Just open MenuHax manager from the HBL then choose Install, then check haxx triggers, then you can use either type 1 (trigger MenuHax is any (or specified) button is held) or type 2 (bypass if any (or specified) button is held) :)

It's included in the homebrew starter kit. Don't download the boot.3dsx or starter kit from any other site. Use Smealums official site. Opening FTBrony before the downgrade process have reportedly increased the chances of the downgrade process starting.

Success! My only issue now is that whenever i boot the system on with the sd card in, it works fine and shows the system firmware to 9.2, but when I boot the system on with the sd card in, it remains as a black screen

1) Reboot your 3ds without the SD
2) change the theme
3)Profit
