Hacking eShop thinks I bought something that I haven't yet...

Moderately freaked out guys. So, I usually demo titles before I buy them, and if I like them, I buy them. So I had $40 in the eshop and was waiting to pickup Final Fantasy Explorers. I had been playing with a .cia instead of a rom, the rom being what I would normally do (or .3ds). Well, I forgot to delete it and when I went to the shop it was grayed out because it said it was on my system.

Well, I wanted to do the right thing and buy the game, so I deleted the .cia file and went to try and redownload the game. I should note, New 3DS Compact, Reinand, latest firmware. So, I went to buy the game and it somehow thinks I did already, because it takes me to a screen that says I already own it and offers me the option to re-download it.

I don't want my NNID to get banned, and I don't want to cheat any companies. I liked the game, and I want to pay for it. Are there any ideas on what to do?

format the system, it's normal. (sorry, no nand-backup) (cia installs on your nand and make a little check, no worry, it's not stored online from what i know)

Like, format my emunand? Huh. If I backup my memory card first and then format it and copy it back over, can I avoid having to redownload all of my games? I have like, fifty plus on my card >_<

Oh well, that's still a small price to pay. It won't unlink my system from my eshop will it? Like, after I format my emunand I'll still be able to put in my username and password and access my purchased content? Sorry, last noob question from me for the day!

yes. (as long as you are not using nnid on sysnand)

Thank you, you are my hero! I was like "WHAT HAPPENED OH MY GOODNESS!!!!" cuz, I mean games are pricey so I like to have a means to decide if I like the game before dropping that kind of cash, and if I like it I buy it and if I don't I delete it because it's not fair to the devs otherwise. So I was like "Nooooooo, I am a cautious spender, not an outright pirate!" and envisioned getting my NNID banned like, post haste >_<

This is normal for non legit CIA's it would simply error out at 99% you can either format your Emunand which kinda blows (backups your saves with savedatafiler) or maybe reset your ticket and title.db (Ive never done it before).

Or you could buy a physical copy Buy the collectors edition, then sell the game only. Keep the DLC and other items and use them with your downloaded copy.

What did you use to delete the app?
If you used BBM, DevMenu or FBI, this is normal. Just use System Settings > Data Management to delete it, and that should solve the problem (I had the same problem, if you go on Data Management you should see the title's name, but with a grey icon (the app should be 0 blocs large), just delete it.)

You could use rxtools to dump your current Ticket.db, rename it, in dump the ticket.db from sysnand, inject it to your emunand, buy the game, in inject your first emunand ticket.db, after visiting the eshop it should download the real ticket, and there should not be a problem. This would prevent all possible problems from nand formating.
Also for the future: use other region cias, or make more backups from your ticket.db.
The other way would be to dump the ticket.db, and remove the Ticket from cia manualy and reinject it, but I haven't done this, so you would need to check the forum for this.

10.5 is not supported yet unfortunately.

If you don't want to edit your title.db, or unlink your NNID from formatting emuNAND, you can try TinyFormat.

Oh, it just occurred to me that I still have an emunand backup from before I installed explorers, I make lots of emunand backups. Will restoring that help, if I do that instead of formatting?

Should bring back the title.db file without that game, so yeah.

For ticket.db dumping the emunand version is not important, because you won't need to boot into emunand. If you are using something like ctrbootmanager or bootctr you could simply add it to the config and load it, when you need.

Ty everyone for the advice; I restored my emunand backup, updated (the update errored out the first time and removed my theme, then it worked) and was able to buy the game with no incident
