Homebrew How to install legit CIA files 9.3-10.3

Anyone tried the socket method once you got it loaded properly? I only have 1 legit cia on my sd and wanna install some more in case I can't get it again.

Yeah. OldXL 9.5
Boot HBL with MenuHax (latest from smea website)
Boot FBI (link from OP)
Loads and always gets frozen on the screen with Done at the bottom.

Tried a fre tricks with loading a app first then quit or putting a cart in/out when it loads.
Just seems like I'm having bad luck.

Thats normal man. You just have to try again and again. sometimes it worked for me at the second time, sometimes at the 9th. try to through the homebrewlauncher via Up/Down buttons and hold the A button on FBI until you reach the end. worked for me better.

Just registered to thank you guys for this, N3DS XL Eu on 10.3 here and finally got it to work doing what dehry said

I tried pulling out Cubic Ninja after opening the app and it finally worked. There might be something to it.

Removing the cart right after opening FBI worked on the first try.

System: N3DS XL EU 10.3
Exploit used: homemenuhax
Tries: Too many to count until I tried what has been said above today
Tries to get games to install: Installed right away without any issues
Game installed: New Super Mario Bros 2 & 3D Land

Edit: Been trying again and cannot get in anymore, seems like I was just lucky

But with this installer it would still fail. And why would you want to install cias of digital games you already own on the same system?

I was actually more interested in installing my cartridge games, but yeah, I know they would probably fail and like I said that maybe personalized CIAs would work with the console that dumped them, but I have no interest in reinstalling them, obviously. Thanks for answering my silly question.

One final question. Realising I may as well just update to 10.3 to access the e-shop, say I install a CIA on my current firm 9.5. Could I still update and the games would be there or would they be gone?

if i was you i would update to 10.3 before 10.4 comes out. no point to stay at 9.5 in my opinion. quote me someone if im wrong.

Yes I have installed Pokemon Y using socketpunch since I don't have enough space on the SD to store the cia and the installed files. Keep in mind that in my case even though I have a very good router the process is very slow and it fails quite often so you ave to try over and over until it works. Still better than trying to get FBI loaded properly again.

I updated to 10.3 from 10.1 and the games remained, and then I was able to update them.

My method was to take the back off of the console. If the system froze, I could take the battery out and boot again using Menuhax.

I found that entering 3DS-FTP and using the L+R+Down+B method of exiting before using FBI greatly increased it's chances of loading (I don't know if this is a placebo, but worth a shot, right?)

What a lot of people keep saying is when you see a screen full of text, press a button. That seems to be wrong, at least in every attempt that I have made.

When you see a screen similar to this:

You actually need to tap the touch screen.

If nothing happens, it has frozen, and you need to start again. If not, it will take you to the menu to install your CIA files!

I did try a number of times with FTBrony but it did not seem to make any difference. Again, might be a coincidence, but 3DS-FTP seems to get it working within a few tries on both consoles.

I had tried this before I managed to install my CIAs, didn't work for me. But I'm glad it worked for you. I'll try it again when I install some more CIAs.

That means the exploit hasn't worked. See my post above, if you don't see text like in the image I posted, it has not loaded correctly.
