And do NOT upgrade from 4.5 to 9.2 by using a game cartridge you dont get a browser update that way. To update to 9.2 from 4.5 use rxtools in devmode and system updater ....youll need system files for 9.2 in a folder called Updates and make SURE you get 9.2 folder for old 3ds....best of luck....

They got Cubic Ninja, they could update straight to 9.2 with a cartridge and use Ninjhax2 to do the rest.
Can even go back afterwards and install the missing system titles that weren't updated from the cartridge update such as the browser.

His version has the browser included (-4E). Are you sure he cannot try Spider exploit as of now?

I -think- the browser exploits require at least -7

The easiest thing would be updating to 4.x and using the flashcard to install the ROP chain for the MSET exploit. Can you update to 4.x?

I found a tutorial in another site

Backing up (dumping) the system nand on an Nintendo 3DS, 3DS XL, 2DS and New 3DS.

To backup your systemnand we are going to use the Gateway Flashcard launcher for this, however don't worry you do not need to actually have purchased a Gateway flashcard to make use of this feature. All you need is a 3DS on firmware 2.0 to 9.2.

So, i can do the nand backup.

There are multiple options available.

1. Updating to 4.x via game card, then installing MSET exploit, creating emunand (via GW Launcher is easiest), then installing rxTools MSET and get rxTools (I recommend 9/28 nightly but 10/02 is supposed to be good too.)
2. Updating to 6.x via game card, similar to the previous one, except you can't use GW Launcher (don't think it works on browser under -7), but Decrypt9 can backup sysnand and I believe create an emunand partiton + write copy of sysnand to it so you don't need GW launcher for it.
3. Updating to 9.2 via game card, using Cubic Ninja with Ninjhax2 to load rxTools (can use Ninjhax2 to load Decrypt9 as well so you can backup sysnand and create emunand.)

As I don't think GW Launcher go.gateway-3ds.com exploit works on browser lower than -7 (someone might have to try), updating to 6.x or 9.2 will lock you out of using GW Launcher. However, there are alternative methods for dumping sysnand and creating emunand which aren't that much more difficult I don't think, but you don't have to risk updating sysnand with sysupdater (should be risk-less if you use rxTools devmode/pasta mode but yeah.)
Then you can go back and install missing system titles such as AGB_FIRM and the browser that aren't included in gamecard updates (any titles you may be missing, I don't know which ones may be missing.)

Same deal with updating to 6.x, but with 6.x you can still use rxTools MSET. You would have to install Decrypt9 MSET with your DS flashcard and then load Decrypt9 Launcher.dat to backup sysnand and create emunand, then switch to rxTools MSET to do the install and then use sysupdater to update with the 9.2 update files (only in rxTools devmode/pasta mode — NOT rxMode sysnand as it will brick.)

Updating to 4.x is the one people recommend but the other two work too. 4.x you can directly use GW Launcher with MSET exploit while updating to 6.x or 9.2 you'll have to use Decrypt9 for emunand but both should work.

The reason why I'd recommend just going straight to 9.2 is because I personally had problems with rxTools when I was using MSET exploit with 6.x, while everything worked 100% fine booting through *hax 2.5 (exact same install, only difference is I had updated sysnand to 9.2 and changed entry point from MSET to *hax via menuhax.)
You'd be missing some optional system titles, like I -think- AGB_FIRM came in 3.0.0? So you wouldn't have it and would have to install manually. Would also be missing the browser, and depending on the game card used to update it may just update to a stub browser entirely which would ask you to update the system if you tried using it. But it should be possible to boot in rxtools pasta mode/dev mode and install missing system titles (may be more trouble than it's worth, admittedly.)

I only the old Zelda games and Super Mario 3d land, nothing of them ask me to update the 3ds.

Too old games, I see. Well, my 3DS could boot both GW Launcher and rxTools with a -4E browser. I think you should just give a try booting them via Spider exploit. Put the Launcher.dat in your SD card and go to the Gateway booting site.

If you don't already have game cards with 4.x/6.x/9.2 updates on them, then I think you might as well go and get one for 4.x (borrowing one works too or maybe ask in an used games shop if you can "try a game out" but really you're just updating.)
The reason for this is, if everything works fine for you in 4.x, you can then fully update sysnand to 9.2 in rxtools devmode and you'll be golden.
However, if you updated to 6.x and there was a compatibility problem with rxtools and your exact setup for whatever reason, it would be difficult to go back to 4.5. Same for 9.2, if you update to 9.2 via game card and for some reason can't get ninjhax2 working or can't get rxtools/decrypt9 working via ninjhax2, you wouldn't be able to go back and you'd be SOL pretty much.

So try find a game card with 4.5 on it, if you run into problems that you can't fix with being on 4.5 then as last resort you can try on 6.x, and if nothing works on 6.x still, can try going all in and getting a game with 9.2 on it.

Yes. If you can get into gateway than you can install anything. Make sure you back up the nand first.

-4 works fine. that's what my O3DS has. At least when using the browser exploit with 4.x

And as I've already said countless times, you can't do it with firmware 2.x or 1.x or 3.x for that matter. You need at least 4.x no matter if you use Mset or the Browser exploit.

Then that might just be for ninjhax1.

If -4 works fine for web exploits then you should be fine, updating to 4.x or 6.x you'd be able to use web exploit to boot GW Launcher for sysnand backup/emunand creation (or Decrypt9 through MSET or Ninjhax2.)
Or even if you updated to 9.2, if -4 works then you'd be able to access GW Launcher from go.gateway-3ds.com and the rest easily through Ninjhax2

Maybe not, but you'd still need a game, whether it had 4.x update on it, 6.x or 9.2

I'd recommend only 4.x and 6.x, don't get games with 5.x or 7.x or 8.x because only 4.x and 6.x have MSET exploit available.
9.2 works too because you have Cubic Ninja. -Should- be able to make emunand and backup sysnand with Decrypt9 and then boot rxTools normally through ninjhax2 (probably also install menuhax while you're at it for autoboot.)

Because that specific entrypoint exist on that firmware range. But to launch a CFW (or GW), you need more than just one exploit. It's a chain of exploits. And that's why even though that one might exist until 9.5 for example, the maximum exploitable firmware version is 9.2
And so, there's no payload created for under 4.x since the necessary chain of exploits to boot a CFW or GW is only starting on 4.2 and up.
I believe there was the intention in the past to make those lower firmwares supported as well but it probably wasn't possible due to inconsistent boot rate.

As I've said, you have only one option at this point. Update your firmware to 4.x. Afterwards, you can either use Mset or the Browser exploit.

Yes. It works just fine since it's not -0 (lacking browser). But even if the browser exists, the minimum firmware for it to work is still 4.x
