There is no need for another flashcart if you have sky3ds already, update to a 4.5 or any other FW below 9.3. Boot up RXTOOLS, inject FBI, load sysupdater and update to 9.2. No need for mset.

He doesn't have a working web browser which is required to boot rxTools in any firmware over 4.5

So the ONLY option for him is to update to 4.x and use mset to boot rxTools, whiche he would need a DS flashcart to set it up.

Game updates don't have the web browser in them so he would be unable to access rxTools if he goes over 4.5 with a game update.

No he can't do that neither, Ninjhax/OOTHAX/Menuhax/Browserhax all hax use the web browser in order to run too, either spider or skater is needed, no browser = no HBL.

He coulnd't even booth the homebrew menu, it would get stuck.

That's why 8.1-0J New 3DS users can't use any CFW.

When you update to 4.5 you still won't have the web browser but that's why you'll use the mset exploit to run rxTools.

And then when you update to 9.2 using sysupdater and rxTools you'll get it (use a full update package).

For o3DS rxTools is the best.

Get to 9.2 first, then install bigbluemenu in sysnand, then create emunand and update it to 10.3

Or you can install bigbluemenu while you are in 4.5, create emunand, update it to 10.3 and update sysnand to 9.2 later

It doesn't matter, just make sure to install bigbluemenu in sysnand before creating emunand (saves headaches).

This is no longer true. Ninjhax 2.5 now supports browser-less 9.2. Just used it last night on a 9.2.0-0U to inject FBI via Ninjhax > HBL > Decrypt9.
From there just installed sysupdater and updated to 9.2.0-20U.

Edit2: Used rxtools devmode to run the injected FBI and installed sysupdater

Which one did you use? Because even Smea has said it that is impossible to boot a -0 into Ninjhax.

You can just load a Cubic Ninja rom in your Sky3DS to boot the homebrew launcher and then rxTools.

Or, if you have a DS flashcart, you can update to 4.1-4.5 and then boot rxtools via mset.
Then you'll be able to upgrade to 9.2 via pasta mode and setup everything else.
