So, I've been thinking about buying a European N3DS second hand from some local second hand ebay sort of thing but I'm seriously lost in what to get since I absolutely didn't keep track of 3DS mod/exploit development at all.

I've been reading up on the topics/stickies on here and I assume I'd be best off buying a Gateway and a 64GB SDXC but i could be totally wrong there.

I have a normal DS (like an ancient one with a R4 card which I upgraded to WoodDS, or whatever it was called, eventually) and I don't really mind the use of card emulating firmware vs software mods but I'm not against CFW at all (installed it on all my PSP's as well) but I seriously don't know what would be best for me. Plus I really do like the idea of roms eventually being trimmed even more when someone comes up with a tool (there is always dummy data filling up space) and I wouldn't mind running CIA's either.

The fact that I'm buying it from a second hand ebay kind of thing means that it comes from normal people, not real sellers, so asking them what firmware is on it is usually a bust since they generally win one or get one from someone but don't need it and don't even unpack it (or unpack it and play with it for a day etc.), I found that, while asking people what firmware was on their PS3 when I wanted to buy one second hand, people are complete idiots and it usually ends up in massive fail lmao.
I'm buying one second hand because that means they're only about 150 Euro (roughly 160-170 dollar) plus a card 60-80 Euro (rougly 75 bucks) and a SDXC Transend card from ebay for about 30 bucks, that's reaaaallly my spending limit (it's actually a bit over it already since I only have 250 euro to spare).

So, could someone please suggest what would be my best bet? Like, what card would be my best bet etc.
I just want to be sure I buy something that will actually work and is as "future proof" as possible.

I know people have asked "similar" things in the past and I read all the stickies, still need some help so if someone would advise I'd be most grateful.

If the firmware of the N3DS is above 9.2 your only option really a sky3ds. If it is below 9.2 (this is very unlikely) you're better off just buying a big SD card and using a CFW.

If you already find it to be a bust, why bother. Just go through the legitimate ebay route. Your msg's to the seller is recorded, your sales is record and if anything falls out of place you are guaranteed a refund.

First you have to know if you'll have an exploitable firmware or not (9.2 is the deadline), if you don't is just a waste of money and time to start planning what cart are you going to buy, so I suggest you to get the 3DS first and then move on from there.

Really? So there are near to no EU N3DS's with firmware <=9.2? Cuz that would explain why the Sky3DS price skyrocketed (it's like 110 euro or something).

Hmmm what's the going firmware right now? Just curious.

True, but it's highly highly highly unlikely to find one on ebay for 150 Euro (or something around that price) from people knowing they're selling exploitable models. You'll be looking more along the lines of 250 Euro I would imagine (atleast, that's what people do, got something rare, wait for it to become even more rare and then sell it for $$$)

Thats something to be expected from those who bought up all of the systems back during release date. I even went through that w/ O3DS.

Well, looks like I'm looking for a black or a blue one atleast (or the MM LE) since there seem to be very little EU versions with lower firmware.

Wal-Mart and Target are going to be a problem, they're on every corner in the US but there are 0 in my country haha.

Well the Australian Dollar is really bad, if you could find someone to to look for old stock in department stores. They are going for $110 USD to $140 Depending on location and if they are having a sale.
