Hello everyone!

I recently bought a R4i3D card for my New 3DS XL to play NDS games and some emulators. I found one on a store near my house. At first I thought it wouldn't work, because I havent seen it on lists of compatible cards on the net. But turns out it works like a charm.

This is the card:

My currently 3DS firmware is the 10.1.0-27U, And today the 10.2.0-28U was just released. I need to know 2 things:

  • Is already know if this card will continue to work after the update?
  • If not, how can I upgrade the card to be compatible?

I entered the site listed on the card: www.r4i3d.com, but it is quite confusing.
I found a download section, but it seems outdated.

It must be clear by now, but im fairly new on this whole thing, so maybe what I'm asking is realy dumb. If its that the case, sorry.

Thanks for reading.

It should be ok to update of you only care about your R4, Nintendo hasn't been attacking DS flashcarts in a while, the only thing they fixed was Themehax and Browserhax which no longer work in 10.2, in any case you SHOULDN'T UPDATE, set up Themehax, 3DS native homebrew is pretty dope, specially Blargsnes, you will gain nothing bu updating, just loose access to Themehax.

If i use this Themehax I will the able to access the store without updating? Im trying now, but I can't on my current firmware. What are the benefits of using this themehax exactly? The emulators are better than the ones on R4? I found then to be really glitchy (noob question again)
Could you point me to a good tutorial to set up the Themehax? And its reversible if i want to return to "original" afterwards?
Thanks a lot for your reply!

You are fine to update if all you want is to use a DS flashcart. Like he said, Nintendo couldn't care less about DS flashcarts anymore. Don't worry about themehax/homemenuhax, that is only for firmwares 9.0-9.2 (it lets custom firmwares boot automatically when you turn your console on). It might have relevance to homebrew on 10.1 too - but if you have no interest in homebrew then don't worry about it.

That's nice to hear! So probably I will never need to worry about my DS flashcard? If someday it stops working, where I can I find the proper files to update this specific card that I bought? Just to keep the link to be safe ;)
Really appreciate your help!

Themehax is not only for booting CFW, it can boot the Homebrew launcher in any 3DS from 9.0 - 10.1
