Hacking Question About Blocking Updates

Ok So I have a wii U on 5.3.2 that has no networks. I've tested this on a different wii u and Open DNS successfully blocks updates.

Now my question. How should I go about setting up my network on the 5.3.2 Wii U? Should I scan for networks and let it connect? And then edit the DNS stuff after I connected? Will the wii u update by itself if I connect before I type in the DNS Settings?

Manual setup or whatever it's called, you can put in all the settings including DNS before it tries to connect.
