Is it as simple as installing the CIA, putting the .gba on the sdcard and running gpSP or is there something else and I messed up? It keeps crashing when I run it.

On sysnand 7.1 and emunand 9.9.

Tested gpsp with Mario & Luigi superstar saga and super Mario advance 3, both run slow.
Using cia version on o3ds.
Is that normal? Or is there any configuration that I can make?

Can confirm that this is normal. Go play the injected version.

Superstar Saga is mostly fullspeed for me. O3DS 9.2. Granted I only played until after the bowser battle. Game will slowdown whenever there's transarency effects on-screen.

I'd use GBA injections if they didn't look absolutely terrible. Gotta hand it to Nintendo for attempting to simulate how bad a GBA screen looks, too bad they made it much worse.

While the extra RAM isn't actually necessary for PS1 emulation and thus likely wouldn't affect speed, it's still interesting you were able to do this!

Maybe @aliaspider would be interested in your implementation? It would mainly be useful for Neo Geo games.

He actually included support for the memory in his 3ds makefile though I could never get it to work. I upgraded my makerom/ctrtool tools and changed the makefile to accommodate the new settings. I would push a change but aliaspider doesn't use OS X (which I use) and thus the included tools would need to be updated by someone else. Basically, if I pushed my changes, he couldn't build until he recompiled those tools and that'd be sort of a bother :P

And PSP internal hardware (I mean, HW architecture) is more compatible with PSX emulation than 3DS one!

Yup, just to clarify:

Processors are controlled by a specific "language" that tells it "move this number into here," "start processing stuff here," etc. The PSX used MIPS instructions as did the PSP. The 3DS uses a version of ARM which is what most modern mobile devices use. So, the PSP could read the instructions meant for the PSX and basically understand it with little effort. The 3DS, on the other hand, has to translate the language into ARM so it knows what the PSX code is saying. This takes a lot of time and is remedied a bit by the dynarec.

After reading this forum without commenting anything, I decided to participate in my way, I don't know if that will help anyone.

I'll try to test a few emulators with different roms. Here's what I tested so far.

I'm using a New 3DS XL, last update with ironhax.

Catsfc
  • Donkey Kong Country : first stage = 50fps
  • Earthbound = 59fps
  • The Legend of Zelda - A Link to the Past = 49-50fps
  • Mega Man X : intro + Spark Mandrill = 59fps
  • Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts (E) = 49-50fps
  • Super Mario Mario World (E) = 50fps but seems to run better in blargsnes.
  • Super Metroid = 50fps (can't shoot tho)
FCeumm
  • Castlevania, Megaman 1 -> 6, Super Mario Bros 2 & 3, Tetris = smooth af, 59fps.
Genesis Plus GX
  • (Game Gear) Power Rangers the Movie (ooh nostalgia) = 59fps
  • (Master System) Alex Kidd in Miracle World = 59fps
  • (Megadrive / Genesis) Aladdin (E) = 49fps
  • Altered Beast = 59fps
  • Castlevania - The New Generation = 49fps
  • Comix Sonz (E) = 49fps
  • Sonic the Hedgehog = 58-60fps

Gambatte

  • Pokemon Crystal & Yellow, Super Mario Land 2, Wario Land = 59fps
gpSP
  • Super Mario Advance 4 - Super Mario World = 59fps
  • Pokemon FireRed (E) = 20fps
  • Pokemon Glazed (hack) = 59fps (haven't tried battle yet)
  • Pokemon Flora Sky = 26fps but won't start.
If you find this helpful and if you want me to test other games, I'm always glad to help.

I haven't had problems in any of those games, or hacks of them. I'm running 9.9 but I sincerely doubt that's the problem you're having.

Have you messed with the settings at all?

One thing worth noting at least on gPSP, saving doesn't actually save (IE. Copy the SRAM to a file) until you close the ROM. If your emulator crashes after you've saved, it won't actually save.
It would be nice if the emulator could be updated to push SRAM changes to file as soon as they're made.
