Just to be sure, would it also be safe to use this method on standard-apps like netflix, youtube etc.?

So, in theory, we can use this upcoming "WUP Installer" to install system update 5.3.2 (for exemple) to a 4.1.0 system (or an other) without the necessity to have a game disk ?

I was actually just adding that in v1.4, along with some GUI tweaking:

:)

FANTASTIC ! Can you also add an option to parse also/only System Titles such as System Menu, Version.bin, etc ? I cannot find them, it seems to parse only game titles... is this correct ?

In theory yes, but it's actually not so easy.
Right now this doesn't work for anything other than 5.3.2 and it may never get ported to lower versions. Aside from that you'd need to install multiple titles at once which it is unable to do for now as a partial update can and will brick your system, ask SonyUSA.

In theory or not, it won't work. Believe me.

it should aslong as you followed the proper update sequence, same as the 3DS you need to update it all in one go and only installing specific bits will result in a bricked console.....3DS was easier to trial and error though thanks to the nand mod being available

This "WUP Installer" replaces "version.bin", it doesn't update your Wii U!

.....yes, but we are talking about if its technically possible to use the same process to manually update, this actual package has a whitelist to prevent idiots bricking their console trying to be "geniuses" and installing random system titles

so yeah what will be released should block system titles being installed, not that its "not possible" its just blocked for user safety

PS thanks to the testers for putting their console at risk testing out this stuff, it was easy me doing it with the 3DS as i knew i could unbrick in 2 mins, no confirmed unbricking methods for the wiiu means this stuff is a lot more risky and testing is a lot more important

I'm sorry but isnt that not completely true remember the mset exploits? How using it requires using other system menu versions, basically on the 3ds you can have let's say a 8.1 system or a 9.1 with a lower system software menu version allowing mset

Not that I'm arguing with you gamequest1 you know your shit :)

yeah and installing the version.bin file on the wiiu seems to be fine, i did say
specific bits
some parts may work fine, other parts may result in a brick......without a hardmod way to recover from a brick its simply not feasible to start randomly checking each and every different title to see what bricks and what is safe

also for the record before the DS flashcard whitelist remover was released i had been testing out a few different things hoping to block system updates etc, but disabling the DS whitelist was the best thing to come from the tests

Unless you work for Nintendo unbricking console I'm sure nothing is technically a good idea, personally I'm just happy to see the wii u scene starting to fire up. Go team go team go

well nope the unbricking method for the 3DS greatly improved the ability to play about downgrading titles etc to see what works and what doesnt, if/when a nand restore method is found for the wiiu there will be more room to play about, but for the time being its all risky buisness, best people can go on is educated guesses on what will be safe, which is why this will have safeguards to prevent end users screwing up their console :)

but yeah im glad people are willing to take the risks to progress the wiiu scene

Finished that up too, at first I wasn't entirely sure if that was something people should mess with, but they gonna need the Version.bin to Spoof anyways.

Version 1.5 has the System Titles added, which you can reveal with a nice animation. :)
