Hardware Does anyone know how to hack into a wireless router?

Forgive me if this is in the wrong forum.

I'm in college right now and the public wifi is really bad. I used to get .5 Mbps down, but now I'm getting sub .05. I didn't like my roommate so I decided to try and steal his wifi to get back at him for being a douche bag. He leaves his router out in the common area so I tried to log in using the WPA2 Key listed on the sticker of the router. I figured that since he left the SSID as the factory default, hopefully he would leave the password the same as well. It turns out he didn't and it made me sad. I tried doing WPS but it wasn't enabled on the router. I next took an Ethernet cord and plugged in my laptop directly to the router. I tried logging into the routers login page because sometimes it shows the password on the security page, but the default password seems to have been changed. What can I do? The router's model number is MI424WR. Does that model have some kind of security flaw? I did a speed test using his connection and it hits 80+. I'm sure he won't notice any dips if I leach off him. I only plan on streaming tv shows. I won't game or download anything. He's also extremely rich. He has 2 laptops, a windows pc, an iMac, an iPad, appleTV, and all sorts of rich people stuff.

Is there a way to get the password for his wifi or connect to it?
I know I could just hold the reset button on the router and restore it to default settings, but he'll obviously find out. I'm looking for a sneaky way in, and once I'm in to leave no trace. Should I just delete the logs if they are kept? As long as I'm offline when he's around, I won't show up under the MAC address list, right?

1. Went out and bought a router
2. Paid my internet cable bill
3. Quit justifying stealing others WiFi

Why don't you just reset his router, then steal it, and have someone in a nearby room hook it up so he won't find out? Cuz, you know, he deserves it for being a rich douchebag?

The way the rooms are set up won't allow that to happen.

Then you should bribe the custodial staff in the building to allow you to run a hidden ethernet cable from his router to your computer.

Does the roommate have loved ones he stays in contact with? If you murdered him for his WiFI, would his family notice soon?

EDIT: After reviewing your comments, it seems like this is your most cost effective solution.

Dude, he said it needs to cost him nothing. Obviously you know nothing about how expensive it is to dispose of a corpse.

Typically in a college environment you can obtain Hydrofluoric acid from chemistry classes. If OP has chemistry class, the solution is obvious and inexpensive.

3. Become best friends with him throughout college

4. Attend his wedding as Best Man

After you've done everything listed, You should be able to access his router and exact your revenge successfully, and without much effort at all.

Almost forgot, good catch - was sure to go to prison without these steps. OP, please be sure to follow this method. Remember, you need to be cleared of motive or you will be Temping from prison.

Sodium hydroxide now seems like your best option, OP. Let me repeat that, SODIUM HYDROXIDE, not HCL or HF. Again, if you need a tutorial video let me know.

If you want to legit hack it though then theres better sites to ask about that than here. Even youtube probably has a decent tutorial on that. Just know it will probably be a bit harder and a lot more time consuming than you'd like. And if he has a decent password you're probably screwed

Try using a tool like aircrack, its free and there are even some easy tutorials for it.

Just realized my roommate and I haven't been getting along lately. I thought I was crazy but I swear my router keeps getting moved around, slightly, but just enough to make me question... what if... no. The chances are too slim...

Or what you could do is take a hacksaw (that is why it is called a hacksaw, it's for hacking things after all!) and use that to hack into the router. After you've hacked into it, look for the first pinout you can find and take a nice long length of copper wire and solder it to the pinout, then solder the other end to the nearest pinout to that. That should bypass the requirements for a password and automatically make it an open router for everyone
