I dont own any devices that can read/write NFC so that means I would be paying for this on top of something else that can do that rather than this plugging into PC and doing what I want.

If they wont make a USB model, whats the cheapest NFC read/write device I can purchase for this?

P.S. I would of emailed them myself but I cant find their customer support email anywhere on their site. Feel free to post it and I'll ask myself.

I'm kinda hoping I can simply resort to an app that uses NFC myself. I can't justify buying something that costs $80, although I do see the savings behind it. Plus, it's not exactly user-friendly.

I cant imagine most users interested in this device wanting to legitimately scan their own amiibos or others around them. I just wanna plug this in USB, dump the .bin files for this and call it a day.

They probably made it this way so its "legal" by means of backing up your own material, if I had any guess why they made it this way.

I doubt they will make a USB model unless there's huge demand for it, as they'd have to write new software for windows and supply a whole new hardware revision. In the meantime pretty much all you can do is buy a cheap NFC-enabled smartphone, although you could try an external reader with an OTG cable. No guarantees it'll work though.

The device claims to be able to scan over 200 amiibo, does that mean once you've reached 200 you can't write anymore and you have to buy another amiiqo to scan more (I really hope that isn't the case) or is it the bank only holds 200 on the app?

Which is it?

I would imagine it's the former. A small NFC chip can only hold so much data, and the average user won't be scanning over 200 amiibo. :/

Lets just hope that soon enough there will be some competition to drive the prices down.

I don't know the technical aspect of things, but I wonder why Amiiqo only works for Amiibos and MaxLander only works with Skylanders. We need something that'll work with all three (Amiibo, Skylander, Infinity).

Does every phone in existence have NFC? This is news to me.

That's like asking for a single gaming emulator on PC that plays Wii U, Xbox One, and PS4. It's not gonna happen, they are built too differently.

No, but if your smartphone doesn't you can go to your phone provider's store and request a sim card with built in NFC capability. It may cost you a few bucks to get one (think it's $15 at the Verizon I work at), but they'll be able to make sure you keep your phone number with the new NFC sim card that they'll put in your phone and they can get rid of your old one or you can keep it if you wish.

I can't speak for Amiiqo, but I know that the MaxLander people have at least in the past talked about supporting Amiibos. I think that they also posted videos of their device working with them. And on their support website they say (in broken English) that they're looking into the possibility of adding Amiibo support in the future via a software update. That, to me, implies that they have the hardware already to make it work.

Thats great to know and theres nothing wrong with a bit of healthy competition especially when we as the consumers benefit from different choices and hopefully different price points.

Personally I'm only interested in support for amiibo only and would like something with ease of access, I'm really curious if this thing can really only write up to 200 scans only. Thats gonna be the deal breaker for me if thats true.

I currently got an iPhone 5, I bought it in 2012 so I'm a bit overdue for a new phone. I'll look into getting one with NFC capabilities but I dont want amiiqo to be the sole reason I upgrade to a new phone.

Well that's what I'm saying, you don't have to completely upgrade your phone, you can keep your current phone and just request an NFC sim card, its inexpensive, easy, and can be done for any smartphone. Plus if I were you in regard to upgrading if you do, I'd wait another month or so, Apple is set to unveil the iPhone 6s within a month, which will be marginally better than the current iPhone 6.

As an iPhone user I much prefer to switch over to Android. I want something with a bit more under the hood and open platform.

Nothing wrong with iPhones but after years of using it, I feel insulted how everything is dumbed down and casual in comparison. Thanks for the suggestion anyways.

While not particularly fond of it myself, I'd still like it if you could install iOS on an Android. I feel like the Android OS has been going downhill for quite some time. I've replaced most of the stock apps, including the dialer.

The hardware limitations of the iPhone, particularly the lack of memory expansion, are a deal breaker for me.

You got a good chance of buying a used one and asking the seller how often they used or even ask for a Pic of fw and telling them not to update
  • RedColoredStars @ RedColoredStars:
Speaking of PLaystation. I see Evilnat put out a beta for PS3 CFW 4.91.2 on the 22nd.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Don't really see the point in updating it tbh
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Yea you right, I thought about updating my PS3 CFW to 4.91, but why really, everything plays fine now. I guess for people that have already updated past 4.9 it would be helpful.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Idk if online servers are still active that would be my only thought
    +1
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Thats true, personally I don't play it online at all, in fact, I deleted all wifi details on it once I installed CFW, so it won't connect and auto-update itself
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I play most games that are on both PS3/360 strickly on the 360, but PS3 exclusives are really only games I play on the PS3 (You know me, I'm more of a Xbox junkie)
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Ps3 really has no titles worth going online
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
    what is nps?
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:

@BigOnYa I had 4.89 hfw on super slim that was great, but when I got a new hard disk I forgot where the guide was and could only find a guide for 4.90 and its resources
  • S @ salazarcosplay:
@BigOnYa I think another reason to want to update is if the hfw is at the level of the fw
  • S @ salazarcosplay:
    you can sync trophies
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Yea that's what I sitting on now- 4.9, and it seems fine, have had no issues at all
