Hey guys, should explain i already have an original 3ds all working on gateway without any problems, but have run into some problems with my N3ds

I have fully followed the Gateway guide but have black screened and dont know what to do next

This is what i have and what i have done

I have a New 3DS XL running 9.0.0-20E

First thing i did was put in the cubic ninja cartridge, ran the exploit by scanning the code etc.... which it accepted no problem at all

Next i turned the machine back on, went into the menu of the cubic ninja cart, selected OR Code and up popped Gateway mode

+++ Now this is where things go pear shaped and i am stuck..... Next i remove the original cubic ninja cartridge and replace with the red gateway cartridge with a sandisk micro sd card in containing some roms (tested and working on my original 3ds)... on the internal micro sd card in the N3ds i popped the launcher.dat from 3.2.2. along with the Nintendo 3ds folder... now the problem, as soon as i choose the option ""Boot Gateway Mode" it black screens

The micro sd card inside the N3ds is a sandisc micro sd formatted to fat32 (tested and working on original 3ds)

PLease could someone advice me what to do next, i am literally pulling out my last few hairs off my head

Thank you in advance

Pete

Gateway on N3ds tends to sometimes not boot. Hold the power button until the light goeas off and try again.

Well, it happens to me too but only sometimes. 95% of the time, my N3DS XL boots into Emunand and works just fine.

Have you formatted and created Emunand?

Edit: By the way, I am currently on GATEWAY ULTRA 3.1.1 PUBLIC BETA coz I really don't feel like downgrading my system settings to install the MSET exploit. I am completely fine with booting my N3DS XL with Cubic Ninja every time rather than messing with the Sysnand :)

I also have all versions of the Gateway files, so if you need any version, I would be happy to upload it for you :)

thank you for the reply dedchar, i have tried this many times now and same black screen

the thing is, Gateway menu launches from cubic ninja no problem, But as soon as i insert red Gateway cart and press A to enter so that i can install the launcher.dat i get black screen, at least 10 times now :(

thinking i should format the n3ds and start over ?

You do not need to hit enter gateway mode to create emunand. You need to scroll all the way to the RIGHT and select the option "Format EmuNAND" and that will format your internal MicroSD card and create Emunand for you.

Please follow this PDF guide and you're good to go.

Edit: You know what, just get the latest version of the guide from here...

http://www.gateway-3ds.com/downloads/

Select and download the pdf "New 3DS Manual Link 1"

Follow that, update your Red Card, create/format Emunand, and you're done. It should then boot into Emunand.

ALSO, VERY IMPORTANT - Put a red colored theme for Sysnand and put a blue colored theme for Emunand (or whichever colors you like), so that you can DIFFERENTIATE VISUALLY whether you're in Sysnand or Emunand :)

On n3ds emuNAnd only goes up to 9.5, but you updated to 9.8

3dnus

0/ create emunand backup with emunand tool
1/ Put in '9.5.0-23' as title id and USA/EUR/JPN as version and check New 3ds.
2/ download
3/ put folder on 3ds' sdcard
4/ install through cia installer (I used bigbluemenu)
5/ reboot. done.

Maybe try a different sdcard?

ahhh that would explain that then, thanks, i should have known :(

I have reformatted the emunand again in the Gateway menu and am on Ver. GW3D 9.0.0-20E

Is there a way to upgrade to emunand 9.5 or am i stuck on this emunand version for good now ?

Thanks to dedchar and ravihpa for the help so far, a credit to the site :)

You're welcome :)

Like dedChar mentioned, you can use 3DNUS to update your Emunand to 9.5 but to tell you the truth, there is no actual need to do that unless you wanna play the absolute latest game, which requires v9.5 or you wanna have Amiibos support.

My Emunand is still on 9.0 but that's only coz I wanna play all the old 3DS games first :)

Edit: Be VERY CAREFUL and make sure you're in Emunand while installing 9.5 cia files. You don't wanna accidentally install those files in Sysnand :P

thanks dedchar i will give that a bash next

seems to be working on ver 9,0 emunand atm, so at least i can play games

an unusual thing tho, i put a red background in sysnand and a red one in emunand, but for some reason both have reverted to the blue one, very strange

I think i will follow your advice for the time being and stay on emunand 9,0, if it is not broken why try and fix it :D

I can play games so i am happy

as u suggested earlier put a red background in sysnand and a blue one in emunand, but for some reason both have reverted to the blue one, very strange

Okay, you need to do ONE VERY IMPORTANT STEP. You need to unlink your sysnand and emunand.

Just turn off your 3DS, remove the internal MicroSD card, turn your 3DS on, DO A SYSTEM FORMAT, turn off 3DS, and now insert your MicroSD card again.

This way, you just formatted your Sysnand WITHOUT formatting your Emunand, which UNLINKED YOUR NANDS.

This is needed because if you make any changes in any one nand, they don't get reflected in the other :)

@ravihpa - your advice on unlinking the nand's worked a treat - thank you my friend for your help and patience, i now have the normal color for sysnand and a red color for emunand, so as you kindly pointed out i can now see the difference more easily

i am also going to stick to your advice and not upgrade the emunand to a higher version, i am happy with the games i have and they will all play on ver 9.0

i am still getting black screen occasionaly when entering gateway mode, but i guess that is something i just live with, a small price to pay

thank you all again

Hi all, seeing as everyone was helpful last time i thought i would try here again first for my next bit of help

So i have n3dsxl running sweet using GW, i have 9.0 on both sysnand and emunand and have unlinked the nands as described earlier in the thread

All is working well, i can load .3ds roms through red GW, however it seems i missed a couple of steps and want to know if i can do them now instead of doing the whole thing over again

Basically i did not load the mset.cia onto the internal card when i set everything up, so the consequence being that everytime i want to use GW now i have to use cubic ninja first (not a massive issue, but i could save time)

Can i simply remove the internal card now (fully powered off) and copy onto it the mset.cia file, add a file loader to the red card (not sure which one tbh, GW say devmenu.3ds other guides suggest bbb or fbi, very confusing). Then power up, use CN to load GW menu, enter GW mode and use the rom launcher to install devmenu or bbb or fbi and then install the mset.cia and bluecard fixes (i didnt load that either)

OR

do i have to start from scratch ??

Thank you in advance

Pete

yes, you can.

and devmenu, fbi, bigbluemenu, bigredmenu, etc, all do basically the same which is installing CIA files. so you can use any of them

Thanks for the reply, so in simple terms...

1) copy mset.cia and bluecardfix.cia to internal card
2) copy devmenu.3ds to the red GW card
3) power on, get into GW mode via CN and then into GW mode
4) run devmenu from rom selector and launch mset.cia and blucardfix.cia
5) power off the machine fully and then i can use the old profile exploit to load GW mode ?? and blue card will also be able to be used straight away for NDS roms ??

Or have i missed anything ?? Sorry, just double checking as one of the guides mentioned formatting NVRAM (something i dont really want to do as i have no idea what this is)

thanks again
