I was told the GW cant work beyond 4.5, is this still true or can it work on later firmware versions?

I've got a new original game that saying it needs v7.1 or later to run. The GW site is a bit vague on whether or not the GW card will work if I update the 3ds.

Is there a work around to this or is it safe to update the 3ds firmware?

It is true, works with 9.2 and below, I would say to stay on that version and run the game in classic mode so it doesnt need to update

Which version, 7.1 or 9.2?

How do you decide what version to update to? never done it before, if I update through Nintendo what if it have v9.3 by then. Or does the game card contain the update to 7.1 (a bit like xbox games applying updates)?

First off, backup your sysNAND if you are below 9.2.

PERIOD.

You can do this with LOADER.DAT from GW's Ultra Pack 3.1.x.

Second, to get from 4.5 to 9.2 sysNAND without going bast, you'll need to run a game with the 9.2 FW update.

Best example I know of is the 1201 Super Smash Bros. ROM. Not the REV A version. That'll only go up to 8.1.

Last, if you're running on 4.5 use GW menu (loader.dat) to format emuNAND (remember, erases all SD data) and then put rxTools on your SD and boot into rxMode and update emuNAND to latest firmware (9.7.x) Then update everything in emuNAND and the use rxTools to export emuNAND moveable.sed and ticket.dg. Then use rxTools to import those to sysNAND. Now your sysNAND is all updated and patched but still reads 9.2 FW.

WARNING: DO NOT UPDATE ANYTHING UNTIL YOU CHECK SETTINGS AND IT READS "RX-E" IN FRONT OF FW VERSION (much like GW3D for Gateway emuNAND).

But if you're on 4.5, you're golden. You can use Gateway with 4.5 and update the Gateway emuNAND to 9.7. Again, make sure it says GW3D on the firmware before doing a system update. If it doesn't --YOU ARE IN SYSNAND--- and once you go past 9.2 there's no way to downgrade unless you already made a sysNAND backup and then did a hard-mod to the 3DS to then downgrade it.

But you have several options, even without a Gateway 3DS. Remember, you can still use most of their software without the cartridges. But go get your Gateway 3DS carts and backup while you wait. Best option.

You can even dump ROMs and SAVEDATA using the Gateway Menu. Only problem is that rxTools doesn't do homebrew like Gateway does. But it will do system transfers and get you all updated and patched up without hurting your sysNAND.

I have 4.5 backed up, and know how to run emunand with GW roms. That doesn't help me run a genuine game that says it wants 7.1 or higher to run. If the genuine card is in then you have no GW options from startup.

The question is should I update the 3ds firmware from 4.5 to something later to play new genuine game cards, or is there some trick with GW to allow it. Does it allow you to run emunand then swap game cards to the genuine game? I cant go into the gateway menu without the GW card in.

Since you already have emunand set up,
Hold L when launching the DS profile exploit and select classic mode
This will load your emunand and let you play retail cartridges

Osmosis, it is launcher.dat not LOADER.DAT. :)

What emunand version do you have? Unless you have a specific need to update sysnand to 9.x you can leave it at 4.5 If emuand is not updated to 7.1 then you need to update it.

Right, I'm missing something simple here. To boot in GW mode then it needs the GW card in, GW and classic both ask for the GW card.

I boot in classic mode, take out the GW card, put in the genuine game card and it locks up when booting.

If I boot in GW mode then it doesn't even see the genuine game in.

What is the correct process for running a new game card on emunand or whatever is needed???

Have you ever formatted emunand and set it up?
or have you just been launching gw mode since you bought it?

It was all set up with emunand, it was needed to go online to the shop.

I think it may have been messed up at some point. The GW microSD got corrupted at one point and I had to restore it again. I thought the emunand lived on the SD card, so had assumed that would still be ok.

I'll back it all up and try set up emunand again.

Yeah, emunand was corrupt. It's back on GW3D 4.5 now. Can update using system update as that crashes it on boot.

If I run the genuine game on GW classic mode then it locks up the 3ds on loading. Top screen has the 3ds logo and the red corners moving in.

In non GW mode, the game wants to update before running, I suspect that's throwing the GW mode.

So, back to the original question, how do I get this genuine game to run on an 4.5 3ds with a GW option?

If yes then you should have emunand 4.5, you can update that to 9.7 (as long as you're using the latest gw launcher)
and then you should be able to run the game in classic mode

Yep, formatted and back to GW3D 4.5

It wouldn't boot with the latest update. The GW is currently on Omega 2.7, does it need 3.2.1?

If updating to v3.2.1 from 2.7, does that only need the launcher.dat updated? or does it need to go through the whole blue card thing?
