OK so I have a legit eShop downloaded copy of Smash Bros 4, all with legit content and the mew two DLC which I got from club nintendo on my US O3DS XL

now I wanna put all this stuff on my Jap N3DS so I used bigbluemenu to install scene releases of the game, the latest update (1.0.7), and the mew two dlc

I used savedatafiler to export the save on my O3DS XL and I used savedatafiler again on my N3DS to import it

but when I launch the game I get an error saying "Unable to use the save data since it is not the latest data. Would you like to create new save data?"

Saying no prompts me to switch off my console, and saying yes wipes the data entirely

I've tried wiping the data and reimporting my save data with SDF but no matter what I've tried I keep getting the error

What am I doing wrong?

First, try deleting the secure value before exporting (and importing I guess). Also make sure you let smash on your n3ds make a save once before importing.

If that doesn't work, make sure that you have the same update 1.0.7 on both systems before exporting/importing

I had the same idea of letting the copy on my N3DS make a save first, so I've done that

what's this secure value though? sorry if I'm not catching on, thanks for the help

No problem! It's a simple option you should find in savedatafiler when you highlight your game's title id. I think the combination is R + X

Certain games like smash have save protection to prevent hacks like this so deleting the secure value may bypass this

Hey thanks! that did the trick, life saver haha

all right here's the interesting bit, the game keeps telling me I gotta agree to the terms and conditions to play online and every time I hit I agree it just says "you cannot access spotpass without agreeing to the terms and conditions" even though I JUST did

is this because I'm using an american game on a japanese system? if so is there a way around it?

EDIT: never mind, problem solved!
