OK. I recently got in the Zelda series a few years ago with Wind Waker HD on Wii U. LOVED it. Absolutely LOVED it. I wanted to play the 2nd quest but discovered it was just a repeat with different clothes and maps, villains, treasure placed differently. Regardless, I wanted more. I received OOT on 3DS because I heard it's the ultimate Zelda game. I can see why. I played it almost every day. Absolutely LOVED that game, as well. Beat it. Beat Master Quest. I have another post on the Wii U forums asking about the next logical step as far as the 3D Zelda series goes. Twilight, Skyward, & MM are my choices. Unless you want to count Hourglass or the other DS one. I bought MM for Gamecube (relatively cheap, at the time). Ripped it and play it on Wii U -- for HD! I .. This game frustrates me. Being rushed, it feels. It feels like it should've been a large, convoluted side quest in OOT. The countdowns and time restriction make me anxious and it's hard to think! I know a lot of people have the complaint about time restrictions and they like to take their time & roam around - I'm with them - At the same time, MM is so much like OOT, aesthetically, that I WANT to like it play it.. I find it hard to enjoy MM - the N64 port on the Gamecube version, anyway. I've tried on Friday or Saturday nights for hours. It's not like I play for 10 minutes & see a countdown & say F# it. It's also not simply the inconvenience of time constraint, it's the "Oh sh*t, I'm going to run out of time! Where was I going? Why? F#CK!" anxiety attack deal! Lol.

Maybe it's petty. Maybe I need medication. Anybody else have similar f#'d up issues with this game? I'm thinking of just skipping & moving on to Skyward or Twilight. Thoughts? Is the 3DS remake any better? More user friendly, maybe?

Thanks.

I don't have that problem at all, I love the fact of time travelling, ( although not in the beginning), and it is not that hard if you slow down the to with the reverse song of time.

But I thought you're not the only one with this, I red it before. Some people just like it and some don't i guess

The 3DS version is almost certainly a better option for your first play through. Everything is streamlined and more intuitive. I don't care for it since I have to n64 version memorized, but it's definitely more accessible. The GameCube emulation is also notoriously sloppy.

As far as being rushed, that anxiety is directly what makes MM such a memorable experience. Not only does the time limit give your actions real meaning and consequence, it also drives home the central points of loss and forces the player to be engaged. The whole game plays on this notion that you can control time, but can't control everything. By taking certain elements of the game out of your hands, it makes the player feel like the played; giving the whole world an element that makes it feel alive.

Have you learned the Inverted Song of Time? It increases the time limit by a significant degree.

Twilight Princess is 40 hours of OoT. Skyward Sword represents a radical departure from many aspects of the Zelda formula.

I'm currently playing the N64 version on an emulator, and I love it! You'll get used to the 3 day cycle really fast, just remember to deposit all your rupees to the bank in West Clock Town before going back in time. If you're having troubles with the 3 day cycle, you should try one of the hidden Ocarina songs, the Inverted Song of Time (down, A, right, down, A, right), which will slow time down, thus giving you 6 days instead of 3.

OK. If you go back in time, do you lost all of the stuff you've acquired? Not including rupees. Assuming I've put them in the bank.

The 3 day cycle is what made me not enjoy it as well the very first time I picked this game up I was like 12 or possibly 13. Having a zelda game with a time limit isn't all that bad. I actually loved it. And the time limit is just so you can only do so much before having to reset the day.

One small spoiler but not huge it helps with the time and someone already mentioned it. Once you get the ocarina back from skull kid you can learn the inverted song of time which slows down the timer and you can easily explore parts of the world and beat a dungeon if you choose makes game more enjoyable without having to worry about the timer ticking to fast...with the 3 day limit once you reset the day you normally can only do a few tasks so keep in mind what you are aiming for. ( the next dungeon, that 3 day part mask, win every night in the game room etc...) you're not just going to be able to play right through and beat everything the first time. It's a repeated process of starting the day over and keeping key items as mentioned above unlocking paths to new areas with these items...

The 3DS makes the bombers notebook better to read IMO.
Better to keep track of events...But overall this game is great up there with OOT that's for sure.

Zelda MM is the hardest Zelda out there.

Now with that out the way. The count down timer is part of what makes the game what it is.

Now, not to give to much away but you basically gotta play some then you go back in time, play another part, go back in time.
There is things that can speed up, slow down, and skip time.

Over all its a great game. Its not your normal pick up and put down game.
You only have so many save locations so its best to play to a point save and then come back later if your running out of time.
With it being a DS system i normally just close it and pick it back up later on

MM .... Think 'Ground Hog Day'
I originally felt the same when I first started this game. This is my first experience with this game as well. Once I realized I got the Ocarina to speed up or slow down the time, I then realized I was going to be playing it to get a 'perfect day ala the movie 'Groundhog Day' with Bill Murry which would by its nature require several restarts of the day or resets of time actually.

The hint stone is always available... though I cant figure out why I've done everything on the (first) hint before checking the stone, but even though that whole event is now clear; went to place, got the item, found the person, etc......yada yada (got bombers book, found all boys, it still does not read clear < is without check mark>>??) anyone tell me why? a glitch maybe?

Anyway I find time-theme games like this one more engaging. (love Radiant Historia DS, Chrono Trigger, etc)

I personally feel (just my opinion) that Nintendo relies on the gamer trying things (when stuck) in game with items or to objects that one might not normally think of like 'push over tomb stones" or some other such nonsense when there is no other apparent direction, or one hits a dead end.

This might seem obvious to you readers, but to noobs / new players, this will stop them dead in their tracks and maybe prevent them from finishing an otherwise classic game. In other words, they are dependent on the gamers' past experience as a gamer. Something I personally consider to be a flaw to their attempt to grow new customers/gamers. The hint stones help here but they are limited at best.

Sorry for the wall-O-text. just another brick in the wall I guess...yeah i'm from that era..
Shalom, Chow

I totally agree, that is why I stoped playing Majora's Mask. Even though there is time reverse and all that traveling, it's a huge pain in the butt! It reminds me of the DS zelda where you have to always go back to the main dungeon i think it was hour glass (i forget). Annoying as hell!
