Homebrew I'm about to buy a 3ds and i would like to know a few things...

As the title says i'm about to buy a 3DS but before that i've been reading the forum and i must say i'm completely lost, i don't even know if this thread goes here or in another topic of the forum, anyway i would like to know some things

1) I've seen many R4 cards like the NDS ones, so this is my question, Are they able to run 3DS games as easy as the NDS r4 did?

2) in case they do, can you play online with it?

Sorry if this is just too noob but i've seen lots of new words for me in the forum and i didnt know where to begin

Anything branded "R4" only runs DS games, except one card ("R4i gold SDHC deluxe" iirc) which is very outdated -- get a Gateway or Sky once you find out which operating system does the 3DS have

1) Yeah, there are namely two (and their clones): Gateway and Sky3DS. You need a firmware of 9.2 and below for Gateway whereas you're good with any FW for Sky. Gateway lets you use homebrew, emuNAND, and a whole bunch of other cool shit whereas Sky is strictly for games.

In terms of which is "easier" I'd definitely say Sky, but that doesn't necessarily make Gateway difficult. If you're willing to put the effort to get the hang of Gateway it's worth it, provided you find a console with the necessary firmware.

i checked a big FAQ about everything but i've never been into hacking on consoles so every term was new for me. Thanks for the answers

Those NDS flashcards labeling is very misleading. For example, they tend to say "3DS Compatible" . It doesn't really mean you can play 3DS ROMS using that flashcards. They only mean that those NDS flashcards can work in a 3DS in DS mode. Which means only NDS games. And that's if they are updated as 3DS has a "blacklist" that will refuse to work if your NDS flashcard is on the blacklist.
