I'm pretty sure you don't need the most recent sysnand to play online, just to access eshop. Why is installing a .cia risky? It seems pretty straightforward.
But doesn't going to eshop require the latest update? Also many people say that installing .cia files to sysnand could damage the console.

Notice the "only one of various ways" part? Im smelling something good here. GW can take as long as they want - I just want the full set of features regular users have.
 
Without EluNAND you can't only play games offline.
You need to download games update via .cia/eShop for playing online so it will not be possible :(

Right, thats what i meant, you only need the most recent sysnand to access eshop. To play online you just need the most recent version of the game you are playing, which you can do manually by installing a .cia, which is still unclear as to how this is dangerous, i've looked around and it all still seems very straight forward and quite difficult to screw up.
