PS1/2 PS2 internal HDD help

I'm hoping to avoid pulling my hdd out every time I want to install a new game. My hdd is properly formatted and recognized by both OPL and HD Loader. I haven't had any luck playing burned games (hoping I could install them through the PS2 itself like the Wii can) or using HDL Dump. Also running a network cable to my router is a last resort. If I get a crossover cable will the drive finally just show up in Winhiip or am I missing something? Possibly an IP address for the PS2 in a cofig file somewhere? When it comes to the PS2 I am just starting out. I'm using FMCB 1.8 fyi.

Are you patching games iso's with ESR before you burn them? And unless your just running games from PC the transfer rate over cable is painstakingly long winhip is the easiest and fastest way to transfer games to an internal hard drive using an ide to usb adapter. You cant transfer burnt games to internal drive using PS2 dvd as far as I know

I am not patching them. Transfer time isn't a huge deal as I plan on letting it work while I sleep. I'd really like to make it happen via the network cable. I will admit I didn't do a ton of research (googling) about burned games. It was a quick attempt since I wasn't having luck prior. If I can't figure this out soon I most likely will end up getting an IDE to USB adapter. I just really dislike hooking/unhooking things up when a network option is available.

A direct connection tends to be faster, but if you just want to transfer files directly then it's same difference and it sure is better than having to pull out the drive every single time.

Alright I'll try running a cable to my router. I attempted to make my own crossover and it didn't seem to work. The PS2 hdd still isn't showing up in winhiip.

it is possible to install burnt games using a slide card/swap trick on a fat ps2. ps2 flat out refuses to mount burnt ps2 discs if you dont use swap trick (therefore no homebrew/loaders can access the disc). Patched ps2 discs will work since it basically tricks the ps2 by masking the disc as a dvd video, which will allow the disc to be loaded.

So if you already have the games burned to dvd, this may be the best way to install them to hard drive. You may have to use hd loader to install the burnt disc, but once its installed you can use either hd loader or opl

I tried to burn a few games but the PS2 doesn't recognize them. Most likely I didn't burn it properly. I'm going to go get an Ethernet cable tonight or tomorrow and run it to my router. Hopefully that works.

Did you do the swap trick? Basically you have to eject tray without ps2 knowing you ejected the tray. There a hidden switch/lever under the ps2 disc tray that unlocks/locks the tray. Burned discs will not work if you do not do this. It sounds that your games are just images on your computer hard drive so direct connection is probably best just remember it will take a very long time to install a game that way

I haven't done any sort of hard mod to my PS2. Only the FMCB 1.8 MC. When you say long, how long do you mean? I'm fairly new to the PS2 scene and everywhere I do research I see comments on the transfer speed...

EDIT: Also, anyone know where I can get a FTP client for Windows XP? Can't find a working filezilla anymore. I've tried back to 3.8.0

Figured it out. I feel dumb. Since I haven't properly networked my PS2 yet, I don't have the IPCONFIG.DAT in my SYS-CONF folder. Hopefully I'l have time to get a network cable tomorrow before work. After the PS2 is plugged into my router I should be good to go with HDL_Dumb and OPL once I configure the PS2 IP setting through OPL. This sound about right?
